Default Lowered Prelude-Excessive Tire Wear

Hi, I bought a lowered Honda Prelude. I took it to the mechanic to get an oil leak fixed. While i was there he told me that my lude was lowered soo much that I would go through tires every 3 months. I am not sure about that, but he showed me the inner portion of the tires, and yes, they were very worn. He said he could go to the junk yard and find some stock struts/springs and put those on for $370.

I have two other choices of action. I can also buy the Illumina Shcok/Strut Suspension kit which lowers the car 1.5 on both, which is $500 and have it installed. I hear the kit is very nice. Would a small drop like that cause faster wear on the tires?

I can also get a Ingalls camber kit which is $200. However, the struts, I believe are stock. I think the guy before me just threw these springs on.

I could add the suspension and the camber kit. That would be pricey.

I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP! THANKS.

If it's not lowered very much (like 1-2") then the camber will not cause the tires to wear....I have seen it on my own car time and time again. Toe is what is wearing the tires most likely. Get a good alignment and that should fix it.

so if its over 2 inches the camber will definitely cause excessive wear?

if you go over 2 inchs I would suggest a camber kit yes.

if you got 1-2 inchs you should be fine without one, those nitto neo gens tires help with inconstant wear as well.

check the struts if they are stock you can just change those out and be fine.

how much lower is the car, you can't lower the car that low with just springs unless the previous owner was a ricer and cut the springs.

Get the car aligned and check to see what springs are installed on the vehicle. If its lowered more than 2 inches, it might have already caused the struts to go out. If the springs are just cut, replace them with stock or aftermarket springs.

how can you tell if the struts are out? The ride isn't really bouncy. If this helps, both the springs and the struts seem to have no coloration. thanks for the help

Should i just go with the illumina kit?

How much would an install of an illumina kit cost?

if u see grease/lube coming out of ur struts theyre blown. and as for the job.. get the mechanic thats going to do it for u to answer that. diff shops have diff labor rates + time needed.

I have neuspeed lowering springs in the front and back in my prelude that the previous owner put in. My car is lowered 1.75" in the front and 1.25" in the back. I hate it. The aggressive look is awesome, but the handling > 100mph is sketchy to say the least. I just got an alignment to fix a toe out problem after a clutch install and my front camber checked in at -1.5 and -1.75. My falkens are screaming for coilovers. If your short on funds a pair of simple camber plates will fix the problem, otherwise it's always better to buy full coilovers.
