Default 92 dx speakers

Hey guys. so i my pars just got me a 92 civic dx sedan and im looking to upgrade the sound. Everything is stock. I went on crutchfield to find out what size speakers i had and theyre 5 1/4 which seems pretty standard from what ive read on the forums. The head unit seems fairly powerful so im just gonna get some new speakers. first off i want to kno if i can get bigger speakers and mod the door a bit or if its just much easier to get 5 1/4. also, my left speaker doesnt play music so im guessing that the wire got unattatched from the speaker. either that or its disconnected from the head unit. can any1 tell me how to take off the plastic speaker cover? and if its not the speaker wire connection then how to examine the back of the head unit. thanks a lot!

um, pull the plastic covers off maybe?

there's a cheap kit that lets you put 6 1/2's up front
seeing you can't take a plastic cover off, I won't mention you making your own.

good luck.
