Prescribe me some brake pads please
Here's the setup:
1992 Civic VX hatch
semi-stripped interior
95 integra rear discs
S2000 front calipers, RSX-S rotors (almost 300mm rotors)
double digit horsepower currently (stock D15Z1)
I want something that can be used for daily driving even in the winter like OEM... But will work good for auto-x almost every weekend and even a track day once or twice a year... Is that possible?
I don't care about dust, and I don't care that much about noise...
I was thinking hawk HP+ would be good, I've heard very good things about them. I'm also interested in Cobalt GT Sport?
thanks for any help.

Good choices. I like the HP+ because it's pretty quiet, rarely squeals on the street. (And also because it gives a nice bite and stands up well to the heat of the racetrack.) I've heard that the new formulation of the GT Sport is pretty noisy. Cobalt is talking about introducing a more "streetable" (i.e. quieter) pad but not until the end of the year at the earliest.

i dd the new gts. they're not so squealy. they dust pretty good, and it turns orange in the rain (rust), but they're good pads. i'm guessing that on the track they can take a better beating than the HP+ before they fade.
Cobalt XR-3's hands down are an awesome pad, they do dust a lot but just clean your wheels after track weekends.
Awesome initial bite, modulation, and really really hard to fade

HP+'s are sort of scary for HPDE, because once they fade, they FADE and you're SOL on brakes until they cool. An Axxis Ultimate doesn't have the incredible bite that the HP+'s do, but they still bite well and won't kill you when you overheat your brakes.
Plus, they're super cheap.
Carbotech Bobcats are popular w/ the Honda crowd, and the WRX crowd.

i have hawk hps on my STi and my civic, they squeak some and perform very well will little fade. i haven't taken either car to a track day but i do a lot of canyon driving and couldn't be happier with the stopping power in either car. lots of dust on my STi, not so much on the civic. might i add that i have powerslot rotors on the civic, stock on the sti..both have stainless lines and both use ATE superblue.

I have the street\track carbotech pad and although I change them for the track, I drove them on the street for about a week and was pleased. They squeal a bit, but they hauled my car down from 110 repeated times in a HPDE on stock 9.2" brakes. It sounds like you have monster brakes on your car, though. I know for CRX's if you do the ITR\Prelude brakes (~11.2") you can just run stock pads even on the track. Of course, if you run R compounds then you'll need better pads, but thats beside the point. Before spending a whole bunch of cash on pads, see how hard it is to fade the ones you have now, you might be supprised.
oh man...for some reason i thought it was s2k brakes on a 95 integra. i agree with what voodoo is saying..already having bigger brakes on a fairly light car, you might be safe with running oem pads until you start to experience some fading. keep in mind that with a different compound pad you should consider resurfacing your rotors, and if they're not within service limits look at dishing out some more money on new rotors. another cheap upgrade you might wanna look into as well is some braided lines and some good brake fluid. good luck and keep us posted.

well, it's a restoration project hatch, just got the body work done and I've got brand new rotors waiting to go on all around, getting stainless lines, too... So now is truly the perfect time to pick some good pads since they need replacing anyway, the rears are pretty bad...

Actually, MOST street/track pads fade, but only the first or second session you get them really hot. In fact, there's a common name for the phenomenon: "green pad syndrome". It's just a break-in thing. Once you've gotten the HP+ hot a few times, they shouldn't fade for the remaining life of the pad.

I don't think Carbotech makes a pad that's really suitable for street and track use. The Bobcats don't stand up to heat well enough to be used on the track (heck, Carbotech recommends NOT using them on the track), and the Panther Plus squeals LOUD, too loud to make them street-friendly. I hated them, took them off while there was still plenty of pad material.

Yeah, I understand that all pads fade...but once you overheat the HP+'s, their performance drops off more drastically compared to any other pad I've come across. They're quite excellent up until that point though...

I actually just did an autocross a few weeks ago and recently four 20min sprint races on the Cobalt XR3. I was shocked that a pad that had such good cold bite (i.e. typical Autocross pad) held up very well at the track... although, the track was brake friendly.
It probably all depends on your mix of driving. If you only do a few HPDE's a year, probably get away with the GT-sports up front and OEM in the rear. If you are doing tons of HPDE's then the XR3's are your best bet.

I feel dumb not knowing what pads I have, but they're at my parents house. The panther plus sounds about right because they did squeal loud enough to annoy me the first few days. They held up really well at the track though, no fade. I just picked up some autozone rotors to use at the track and kept my lifetime waratee pads with stock rotors, track pads with track rotors.

I loved my HP+ when i had them. Great bite, and not too much fade. They held up for quite a while as well too. They were fine for the street as well, they dusted a lil more than i would like...but o well.
