i was on the highway driving fine (doing about a steady 90) coming home from indy. then right when i got off the highway my car was idling just fine... then started to sputter, and died at a stoplight. took a few times to get it started back up then ran like **** til i could get it to a parking lot to get it parked, then didnt start back up after that... took my dizzy apart and found that my points on my cap looked a little corroded, and my rotor looked like this.

That's pretty corroded, brotha. Intermittent problems like that on hondas are widely caused by bad distributors. It's corroded...so why not change it. Even if the problem is something else, that rotor has got to go.
One time, I told my friend to pull a car out of a bay at our work. My boss yelled "make sure you start it first". We had a good laugh at his expense, and he had us fired. Now, I am passing that knowledge on to you.
^^ pointless.

now how can i get the rotor turned to where i can get that screw out of the side?</TD></TR></TABLE>
just bump the starter a few times, until the rotor points to 10 o clock, it should be accessible there

well i got the new rotor, cap, and coil in...
started up real quickfast for a lil puff of exhaust (more than its been doin) and now its back to the same it seems. im not sure if the engines cranking and im not getting the right a/f/spark mixture... or if its not cranking the engine at all... any suggestions?
i just got a starter a lil over a year ago, could it be bad already from trying to start it so much when it was broken down in the parking lot?

Not sure if it getting spark/fuel or cranking at all? When you turn the key to "start" does the engine start talking like, "WA WA WA AWA WA WA WA"? Or does it just sit there and say, "click"? Or does it not say anything at all?

well its definately making the starter noise...
just doesnt really sound like its actually cranking the engine

for what its worth you can try this...
my b18c was doing the same thing, tried to troubleshoot it for a week. nothing!
finally decided to change out the air intake temp sensor (i think thats what it is) lol. its the one on the side of the head under the vtec pressure switch. 20 bucks or so for the fix and she runs like a top now
good luck

that's not your intake temp sensor. that's probably your coolant temp sensor. your intake temp sensor is in your intake tube or manifold.
if you replace sensors without diagnosing, you're pissing in the wind.
OP: you dont think the car is cranking? well if the starter is making the intermittent WAH WAH WAH WAH noise, it's cranking. If it makes just a whizzing noise, then the starter gear isnt being pushed out and it is not cranking the engine. It will be just a straight whizzing.....like an electric drill.
Are all your grounds good? Check the grounding strap from the trans to the chassis, the strap from the valve cover to the core support, and the ECU ground located on the thermostat housing.
Unfortunately, without actually being able to look at and test components on the car, everyone on here is just going to be pissing in the wind as well. Try taking the car to a shop where they can test things out. It may be cheaper than throwing cubic megadollars worth of parts at it.

yeah, well im about to go out and check all those grounds now. but im pretty sure i already checked em.
see, the sound the starters making isnt necessarily a whizzing sound... but its not the wa wa wa wa sound either

all grounds are good, this is making me so mad, i just want my car running...
i have so many different things running through my head as to what it is, and its driving me insaneeeeeeeeee. i just keep thinking to myself that the motors blown and theres nothing i can do about it, and im just wasting my money by putting money into it. cant afford to get it towed somewhere to get it looked at, and cant afford to get it diagnosed either... this sucks
another thing i forgot to mention is when i got it started back up the day it went out. it would be driving, then start to make a ticking noise... then the noise would stop for a second... then it would start up again. thats whats making me believe that the engines gone, but i think if my engine went it would have been a lil more serious than that.

i neeeed my car back, she was my daily</TD></TR></TABLE>
Dude, sounds like you need to suck it up and just take it to a shop. There's only so much that can be done on the internet.
Your car won't start, OK. Are you getting fuel? Spark? Timing is correct? Any CELs? Have you done a compression or leakdown test? There are so many questions that haven't been asked or answered yet. I have no idea why you're looking at your starter when you have an issue with the car not wanting to idle.

what do you mean by "the car ran like ****". If the starter isnt making the regular noise, it could mean that you have a loss in compression, so the rotating assembly is a lot easier to spin for the starter. No compression, no start. Check to make sure all your plugs are in tight. You might have also thrown a rod or something. That could have been your ticking sound. Maybe a cam problem. Like i said man...everyone's gonna be pissing in the wind. You might end up spending a ton of money trying to fix it...and it's unfixable, just like you said. So ..i mean...do what you gotta do, but you should probably take it somewhere.
