No oil on dip stick!
i have a 97 gsr and i just changed the oil in it about 2 weeks ago well i go to check the oil in it today and theres oil on the dip stick so i wipe it off and put the dipstick back in, take it back out and its bone dry. so i let my car sit for about 2 hours because i had just got done driving it. I go back out side to check it again and its still bone dry. I looked and theres no oil leaks under the car anyone have any ideas why this is happening.
Yes, it definitely means you're consuming oil. The distance between the two dots on the dipstick is one quart. Are you SURE that when you changed the oil, you filled it with enough oil so that it was full (top dot)? No mistakes? If so, it used at least a quart and a half during the past two weeks. How many miles did you drive during that time?
It's not unusual to use up to 1 quart per 1000 miles, especially if you get up into the high revs a lot. More than that, and you have a serious problem.

Are you ******* retarded? That's some of the stupidest things I've ever heard on this website. You can't see your oil unless it's warm? hahahah idiot.
THat's like saying that if you have a full glass of apple juice and you dip your finger in it you won't see any wetness on your finger unless you heat up the apple juice.
Oil is oil, regardless if it's hot in the pan or not. It will or it won't show up on the dipstick. If none is showing up, it ain't there.
hahahah has to be warm oil.... hahahah. WOW

did you check to see if your drain plug and filter are tight...because if loostend that oil could have drained out alot earlier. don't know for sure...its just i have seen it in the shop i work at. just a suggestion
LOL omg this guy gotten be kidding!! lolol. anyway i know this might sound stupid but some ppl forget ( and im not saying u) if your not on flat ground the oil could be tilted and it wont show up on the stick. but if u are on flat ground, then you definetly comsuming oil. but in 2 weeks and burnign that much oil is hardly unoticable. it would have to smoking like crazy when u drive. anyway maybe u forgot to put in enough oil? im just saying cuz i find it hard to believe again in 2 weeks time and 4.5 qts in gone? thats alot of oil to be consuming. go under your car and tap on your pan does it sound hollow? i know this might be very stupid to tell u to do but hey some ppl just forget the basics or in a hurry and forget things
I think what that guy meant by saying the oil has to be warm is that oil expands when it's warm, but not that much, it'll still show up on the dipstick cold. Just a suggestion for checking oil - after the car has been warmed up/driven, park it for like 10 or 15 minutes then check it while it warm, but don't forget to wait that 10 or 15 min so the oil can run down from the head and everything into the pan. Basically your question was answered, either your rings are bad and you're burning a ton of oil, which you would smell and probably see (the car behind you would for sure), or it leaked out probably at the filter or oil pan drain bolt.
you guys underestimate the power of the idiot.
whatever, i know once ive changed the oil, i immedately checks the oil, and ive found the oil to have small color. after running it for a while, color changes or something.

No, it doesn't.
You can check the oil cold or hot. It will be around the same level (and same color) on the dipstick either way. If you have trouble believing this, just try it.
The things people mentioned here are the leading suspects. Also, if you didn't put the proper amount of oil in when you changed the oil, that would do it too. It takes 4.2 quarts in a GS-R or Type R, 4.0 quarts in a GS, LS, etc.

It'll get darker as it gets dirty from use, but it's not just going to change color from running for a little.
