Default JDM ITR 96 vs 98 spec cluster - fuel gauge

I just bought a 96 jdm itr. The guage cluster had been swaped but I'm not quiet sure why the fuel gauge isn't working. I have a new fuel sending unit coming for a usdm 97 itr so that may be the problem but someone was telling me the pinouts for a 96/98 spec itr cluster are different?

Can anyone confirm this? My fuel gauge doesn't even budge as if it is getting no signal what so ever.

yea, i was searching and read someone talking about the green film on the back of them. I wasn't sure exactly what needed to be changed. I don't have the original cluster. Does this mean i need to hunt down a 96 spec itr cluster for the film on the back of it?

Also what is the easiest way to identify a 96 vs 98 spec cluster?

I have a spare 96' gs-r cluster, its film should solve your problems. Let me know if you are interested in it. I'm right below Nashville, so shipping should be extremely cheap.

sent you a pm coolhandluke.

Can anyone else confirm that the film from a usdm gsr cluster would fix the problem with me having a 98 spec cluster in a 96 spec itr.

update:

took a 94-97 sir cluster film and swaped with a 98spec cluster. Worked like a champ. Easiest way to spot a 98+ cluster is it has the small plug for what I think is abs/srs.
