depends on the kinda of wing ... i think the older models had it optional just like the newer ones but i know that the 05-06 type s come with that little lip for sure the adds 50% more down force (i came across this info in a magazine but cant remember which one)

All wings were optional on the 02-04 RSX.

i know its hard to believe but its what the article read ... if i find it ill post it but cant promise ... i dont really know myself cause im not an expert in aerodynamics but there are some ways you can look at it ... plus i dont think you really need a wing unless your rwd cause its supposed to push the rear down since air from the belly of the car is pushing up but thats just my opinion ...

Good answer. Take the following steps to claim your prize.

now now be nice

i think rwd/4wd/and fwd can benefit from a properly constructed spoiler
some more than others
mostly for stability and downforce i guess

theres always gotta be a dick when things dont seem make sense to them ... your opinion should be stated not just your ignorant rant that doesnt even have any value or information here ...

also the article probably meant that the little spoiler lip gave 50% more down force compared to the older model's spoiler ... is that more exact for you to understand that i didnt mean for it to sound like the spoiler gave it 50% more down force compared to having no wing at all ... thats probably the clarity issue here

and ill still find that article ...

Actually, I'm being a dick because things make perfect sense to me. If you understand the basic principles of aerodynamics as applied to automobiles, you would know that they have the same effect on a car regardless of the drivetrain. A properly tested and constructed rear spoiler would benefit any type of car at high speeds by granting extra stability. Bernoulli has read your post and is rolling over in his grave.

Bernoulli's principle - The principle states that when a fluid flowing through a tube reaches a constriction or narrowing of the tube, the speed of the fluid passing through the constriction is increased and its pressure decreased. The general lift of an airfoil is dependent upon the airfoil's being able to create circulation in the air stream and develop the lifting pressure over the airfoil surface. As the relative wind strikes the leading edge of the airfoil, the flow of air is split. Part is deflected upward and aft, and the rest is deflected down and aft. Since the upper surface of the wing has camber or a curve on it, the flow over its surface is disrupted, and this causes a wavelike effect to the wing. The lower surface is relatively flat. Lift is accomplished by the difference in the airflow across the airfoil.

i do understand that aerodynamics have the same effect on any drivetrain but are you mostly going to need it on a fwd very often ... the right kind of front lip should be enough to keep you hugging the ground if you fwd and a wing wouldnt be all too important since the speeds you race around a track doesnt go too high except on one or two straights that you may get ... id understand if you were racing in F1 cars but our street legal cars dont hit those high speeds so often ...

aerodynamics play less of a factor when your at low speeds. solo 1 maybe, but solo 2 its going to do dick all.

Optional on all 02-04s

The 50% down force statement sounds false.

The FWD not needing a wing is 100% false. (For track cars anyways)

i would like to clear up the aerodynamics thing a little because you guys are missing the point.

1. The spoilers on the RSX, both high and low, are not meant to provide downforce. They're not even shaped that way. Their purpose is to smooth out the airflow and decrease drag.

2. The little lip spoiler on the '05-06 type S models decreases drag and increases downforce a small amount. This is the same type of spoiler that was placed on the trunk of M5's, and they DO work.

3. I'm sure they could find a way to justify "50%." Is it 50% less lift? That probably isn't very hard to achieve. But if they're saying it increases the vertical load on the rear tires by 50%, I find that hard to believe. You'd have to be going 150mph to approach that kind of number.

4. Downforce increases available traction. In a FWD car, where do you want traction? The front. A rear wing might even be counterproductive if not paired with some canards on the front, because it will increase your rear traction at high speeds and make the car understeer.

5. The guy who was saying it probably doesn't make much difference for a street car is right on IMO.

How's that for a first post!
