Clifford IG 8000 or 7000 and other Q's
Which is better? i can get them for 350 and 330 respectivley, is that a good deal? also, i know Clifford was bought out by viper, so can i get it serviced by a Viper dealer? thanks (i dont know much about alarms)
I would get the 8000 and add the shock/impact piezo or omni sensor.. the Clifford digital proximity sensor is good.. but I wouldnt want to go w/o shock/impact protection either (on my car I have shock/impact, proximity AND tilt sensors)...
are those prices installed? or just the parts? if thats installed thats probably a basic install which the alarm will function.. but when it comes down to its purpose.. protecting your vehicle from theft.. that basic install isn't going to do much to protect your car from a theif.. cuz w/ basic installs (like at Circuit city, best buy, good guys, alarm shop specials, etc.. ) they just wire it up so it works.. but everything is pretty much plain view.. alarm brain is right there under dash, alarm wires are right there in plain view or just in electrical tape, and starter kill relays are just laid out and all visible once a theif rips out the lower dash..
the Concept 600 has all the features of the IG 7000 and 8000 plus it has both the sensors (impact/shock and proximity) also has window closure.. you might want to look into that too
I have a Clifford Avant Guard on my car.. my whole family uses Cliffords.. and my dad has been using them for like 20 yrs on his cars .. they've been very reliable and convenient security systems.. we get the upper models though.. not sure how their entry level stuff like Nova, cyber, Arrow, etc are...

hum... 350 installed... he stresses the "good install" part of it tho... not sure what he means by that... not sure about install myself, what do u recommend me asking the installer?
ok seriously if you ran a car stereo and alarm shop or worked there as an installer.. are you going to tell the customer that "yeah I'm just going to do a shitty basic install thats easy and wont take me much time to do" or are you going to tell the customer "its a good install, i have years of experience, i do these installs every week, blah blah blah" if they said the first I think a lot of people would walk out the door.. and since owning a store is all about profit.. you can figure out why basically everyone will say 'we do good installs"
you need to talk to the installer about brain placement (hiding it so its not just right there when a theif rips out your lower steering column cover), hiding the starter kill relays, hiding the wires and running them along w/ stock wiring.. basically making the alarm look undetectable.. it will be obvious you have an alarm (LED and chirp or siren when theif makes it go off) so what you need to prevent is the theif finding the alarm brain and wires and disarming it..
you should also get a hood pin switch.. so when they try to open your hood and cut your battery and siren your alarm goes off.. also get a hood LOCK which locks the hood so that even if they bust open the factory hood lock (really not a hard task to do). there is still a secondary hood lock to protect your siren and battery..
you might also ask about battery back up, the extra sensors I named, a pager to alert you when the alarm goes off and doors are opened, internal/in cabin pain generator (mini siren), etc..
not sure how much money you have to spend.. but those are all good things to have.. I have all those and then some on my alarm....

what do you think about the proximity alarm that comes standard on the 8000? is it better than shock sensors, or is it just a pain in the ***? like if ppl were to walk by it, wouldnt it go off? if i turned it off, then would the alarm still work if someone broke into it?
well it depends on how you set it.. if you make it too sensitive its going to be annoying and false a lot.. and people will kick your car cuz they find it annoying or whatever... as for proximity vs shock/impact sensors.. they cover 2 different things. so you can't really compare the 2.. I'm sure you know what they do.. its pretty obvious from the name.. so I'm not going to go into that.. but they protect your car in different ways/cover different types of tampering so its hard to say which is "better".. so I would get both... (actually I did.. and I also have a tilt sensor)...
if you set it sensitive (the outer proximity field/zone) then it will go off when people walk by (this is an incorrect way to set it/overly sensitive)... if you turned off the sensor.. the alarm would still function you just don't have proximity (or whatever other sensor you disabled) protection.. everythin else (starter kill, keyless, hood, door, trunk, etc.. whatever else you have functions the same..
