Default Weird Axle/Trans Combo question.

Hey everyone, I recentley picked up another EF, this time a hatch. The model of the car is a STD, and it has a obd1 sohc vtec swap that is supposed to have a crx si tranny.. I had been wondering since i got the car two weeks ago if it really had an si trans or not so I checked it the way that is archived in a thread which is turning the crank pulley to see how many times around you turn it until the wheel makes a full rotation. Well it took exactly 12 turns which says that it is an HF tranny.. My question is, is there anyway to confirm this without taking the trans out?

And here is my biggest question that had me thinking, if it is indeed not an Si trans, then if I wanted to use the Si tranny ( which I do, and will use ) then will I need to get axles and hub assembleys from an Si also ?

You can use the same axles. si trannies are geared very short, how fast can you go in 2nd. If it's over 60 it's not an si. you might need a different clutch if you change trannies though.good luck

Wait, wait. The STD/HF and Si/DX hubs and axles are different sizes. You will have to change out axles and hubs before putting that trans in.

I think you may have that HF trans on there because their axles and hubs are the same sizes, so it was an easy swap for the previous owner.

that is exactly what I Thought Wizco.. Thats why I posted this. I am almost 100% positive it is an hf trans in the car now.

The only thing that gets me is the axles in there now say DSS as a company name which I have never heard of.

So what I have to do is buy Si hubs and axles, and rotors? and also what about calipers?

edit: it says except Hf on there site.... I am almost positive the tranny is an Hf trans, because it is long geared, 5 speed, and I did the check by marking the crank pulley and tire and it equalled out to be an hf

I dont care what everyone else says you can use the hf axles in the si trans. The inside joints (the ones that go into the trans)are the same. Only the outers(that go in the hub) are smaller.

This is correct. You can use his setup by making hybrid axles, but who wants to go through all the trouble?

I usually just tell people to use the Si/DX hubs and axles for simplicity's sake.

EDIT: Nevermind, I am wrong. Don't listen to me.

All you need is the tranny, that's it. The axles that you're currently using will fit right into the si tranny.

you only need different axles when you change the hubs to NON hf/std units because the hf/std outer joints are smaller then the others.

So a safe way to check is to pull my axles out this weekend, and make sure they correctly fit my Si trans, because I know they now fit my hubs.....

I still have to order a clutch and my brake setup but I wanted to make sure before I order anything else.

i second the statement that the axle inner joints are the same. swapping an si trans will work just fine with the stock hf hubs, as long as you stick with the hf axles. the outer joint is the only difference.

i will check today or tomorrow and let everyone know....

Is there anyways to tell which hubs and or brake setup is on my car now ? maybe measure the rotor ?
