Default Where does the master switch need to be mounted?

I've read the nasa rules and searched, but cannot find an answer. Can someone tell me where the switch needs to be mounted. Thanks.

It needs to be mounted in an area easily accessible from the outside the car. Most installs that I've seen mount them at the front corners of the driver's or passenger's window (either on the cage or in the dash), on the cage at the rear of the passenger's window, or under the hood with a pull cable.

Mine is mounted using the latter method. I have my disconnect mounted to a bracket that is welded to the firewall. A pull cable comes out of the rain tray. If a corner worker has to kill the engine, all (s)he has to do is pull the cable. I can post pictures if you like.

I recommend mounting it in a location where you can easily kill the car youself in addition to the corner worker. I've now been in two situations where it has been most helpful for me to totally cut off power to the car myself. Sometimes the corner workers can't get to you easily; you could turn it off much faster then they could ever get there; situations where it isn't critical but ideal to turn the car off, ect. I like it mounted somewhere in the drivers window towards the outside mirror.

So, would it be okay to mount in the dash on drivers side under the vent?

Do you have a cage in the car yet? If so, have someone weld a tab to the cage an put it there. Do not put it under the vent. Stand outside the car, imagine it on fire, and think where you could very quickly and easily stick your hand to turn the car off. If you'd like a photo of how I did mine, shoot me a PM with your e-mail.

its really up to you and free to where you put it. as long as it makes sense, as in within reach and usable.

having it mounted on one side of the car and then connecting a remote pull wire so that the switch can be killed on the other side would be a good idea too.
