Okay So every friday i've been joining my friends at the track to watch cars go down the drag strip, and watch my friends race their cars. Now me being around all that has kinda tempted me to try my s2000 at the drag strip. My friends are telling me to go ahead and do it, but im very hesitant. I tell them that the S2k isn't really a drag car but you know how peer pressure goes.
I frequent honda-tech often and have learned that the stock differential on the s2000 is very weak. I searched and have found that with even downshifts people have crapped their diffs. For this reason I have never launched the car. Yes... i have NEVER launched the car lol. Questions are as follows.
Q.1: Will it really hurt my car if I launch it just once or twice and the strip?
Q.2: Also, what are some launch techniques i need to know for the car? How do i launch it? what rpm's?
and this last question is unrelated but i dont want to make a new topic about it.
Q.3: Im planning on doing a 900mile road trip in the s2k. Of course all the regular maintenance will be done to the car. But is it a wise choice to do so? 70mph the whole way sufficient? How is the s2000 on long drives?
THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!

1) Once or twice, no. You can do it repeatedly, and if done correctly it will do no more damage than wear and tear.
2) Launch it at your torque peak, that's the only way to get the car going AND spinning the tires slightly. Preload your drivetrain, meaning letting the clutch out to that very first contact, taking up all the slack in the drivetrain to reduce shock, then feathering both gas and clutch to get good traction off the line. It's safer to spin the wheels more instead of bog.
3) Make sure your maintenance is updated, and you should be fine. I took mine for a 1000 mile cruise from LA to SF, then back, one weekend, doing about 75-80 average. Heat, hills, dust and all, she did fine.

Is your S pretty much stock? If so then launching it should be fine. If your running boost at anything over 300whp i would really launch the car, it will put a lot of stress on the rear diff.
