Default new car

Hey guys im always in the integra forum because of my p.o.s. DA. anyway in the near future im gunna be buying a newer more RELIABLE car and i still like imports so im thinking of the fifth gen prelude . im looking at the 2000 prelude and i for sure want a 5 speed and the vtec version which correct me if im wrong but it is se or sh?

well my question is is there common problems with ludes?,whats the recalls?, are they "fast"/quick stock.

Ive heard of the fifth gen trannies being all f 'd up the the shift fork in the tranny or sumthing so if that went and there was a recal on it would honda fix it for free even if i bought it off auto trader from a private owner? thanks in advance for any help.

all 5th gens in US came w/ V-----TECHNOLOGY. mine is a pig on wheels. 5spd is problem-free for preludes.

just know they love to burn oil esp in VTEC. All 5th gen ludes are VTEC whether base of SH. If you plan on modding you car, go for a base, because SH's will restrict after a while. But defn get a 5spd, they don't have many problems.

the ATTS (active torque transfer system) on the SH model does not respond well to high horsepower mods.

I think the general consensus is anything much over 200whp is gonna start pushing it.....and most prelude average about 160whp from the factory.....so you've got some room to play with if you are just going to do some I/H/E and maybe stage one cams.

the atts system works like little clutches and they wont hold higher power just like a oem clutch wouldn't

as far as burning oil, it's not a big deal.....usually just a puff of smoke at vtec crossover.....i've never had to add any oil because of it

you can look up the recalls on google but the only one that ive had to get done on my lude (97) is the ignition switch, which they fix for free due to the recall.

i dont think they burn oil.. i think the people that claim h22 burn oil are the people that are either in VTEC all the time or have a leak they dont know about.

Its SH. If u get one try 2 get one that is a base bc the tranny is different form the base and the SH. Sh is just more of a bitch in the long run. It is quick stock as it is. Gotta love the long gears on the h22

theyre all good if theyre manual 5spd trannies.

for autos (IF YOU MUST GET ONE)
97-98 had a recall on the auto sportshift tranny
99-01 doesnt so i assume they got a more durable one/ less faulty?
i think the newer 99-01 got 5more hp.. forgot what it was but it was 55mm something vs. 50mm or 60mm vs. 55mm....

but preludes are generally the same through the years.
