OT: Rescued infant squirrel...
I made a mention of this in my other thread, so I figure I'll make a thread about it.
I copy and pasted this from my thread on INC, so some parts might not make much sense:
Well, those of the CFR who were at the CFR house the other night, know about the CFR squirrel. Who was found in the middle of the yard (Obviously fell out of the tree), and luckily, Ryan (CFR_GSX) and Scott Walker (CarolinaFriedRice) spotted him, and took him inside.
Long story short, me being the soft hearted ***** I am, I ended up taking him home (What with all the talk of sticks up his *** and putting him on the grill, haha). The first night, all I could do was dab milk onto my finger, and let him lick it off, I hoped this would be enough to get him through the first day without his mother.
After researching what to do next extensively, I went out and bought a few different plastic syringes (Various sizes and lengths, to find which one he prefered), some kitten formula, and got to trying to save him. After many frusterating attempts in 120degree weather, I finally gave up for a day, as his spastic self made it impossible to feed. I went back out today, and tried feeding him water, after many attempts, he began to drink. I then switched to the kitty formula, and he's been eating just fine since. He's finally getting some sleep (He had been up the entire time crying... Yes, squirrels cry, and it's ******* heart breaking, haha).
Anyway, it's looking like he has a good chance of surviving. No broken bones, no punctured skin, he seems to be in perfect health, and is now eating. I plan on raising him as long as I can (Before he starts wanting to go outside), and if he doesn't mind, I'll keep him as a pet. Yes, it's illegal (No penalties at all really) to keep a wildlife animal for more than 48 hours, but I don't care, little dude needs me. His eyes are still closed even, he can't roll himself off his back, he'd die if I let him go right now.
Anyway, on with the pictures:
You can see how spastic his head motions are...

Cleaning the **** off his legs (He goes to the bathroom on his own, that's a plus, they typically don't)...

Yes, it's awfully stressful work (Sweaty brow) feeding this little bastard... (Liking the "Diamond" Misfits Grill shirt?
)

More pictures as he progresses.
As it stands now, he has a good chance of surviving. But who knows, whenever you take a wild animal in, they sometimes don't make it. He might live, he might not, who knows? But I'll give him the best shot I can.
UPDATE 08.12.07:
He's eating on his own now, this makes feeding him SOOOOOO much easier. I was having to dab each drop from the synringe onto his mouth, let me swallow it down, blow some bubbles, wipe away the remainder, and repeat, for about 20-25 times. Took about an hour to feed him.
Now, I simple dab the formula on his mouth once, tip him on his back, and he starts to stick his tongue out, I just give him the syringe, and he empties the damn thing quite quickly, haha. MUCH simpler. I'm glad he's eating on his own now, I was on the verge of giving up.

His name, is Ricer, hahahaha.
He got his name because he was rescued by the CFR (My crew), CFR stands for Carolina Fried Rice, so Ricer was appropriate, ha.
If he lives past this stage of life (Pretty likely he won't, but there's also a good chance he will, it's all case dependent), he will be the Type-R mascot, haha.

When he gets older (i.e Doesn't need constant attention), I'll build him a cage in one of the many vacant rooms in my house, and bury his food, and make him find it like he would in the wild. Hopefully this will be sufficient to enable him to survive if and when he is released into the wild.
From what I've heard/read, squirrels are very appreciative animals, they often don't want to leave their rescuers care.

I heard that as well, but I couldn't find that at ANY local pet store, so I called and asked my vet, and she told me the kitty formula will work just fine.

About $130 at your local pet store, expect a long wait though.
VERY easy to maintain, they eat cat food, drink from a small animal bottle, and run on their wheel. It's important to let them roam a large area though (Just a closed off room), this will keep them happy (You can seriously tell when a hedgehog is depressed).

The baby needs the correct formula (no kitten, human baby formula or homemade concoctions or goats milk). Incorrect types of formula can lead to metabolic bone disease and problems with improper development.
Correct formula closest to squirrel mothers milk..
