Miles before changing brakes...
My car has 70,000 miles and i still have the original brake pads on the car with still some material left. I am attributing it to regularly downshift when slowing down. Just wondering what kinda of mileage everyone else is getting on their pads.
The rears were the first to go on my car. 55k miles
The fronts were just fine and could have gone another year, even at 65k miles.

I just changed mine out this weekend with 120kmiles. They things were gone big time. the brake wear indicator had already been shaved off. LOL...but new ones are in thank god.

there are too many variables to say.. how long your brake pads last depends on how you drive, what kind of driving you do (high speed, highway, stop and go/city), what roads you travel on (hilly, level, stop lights and stop signs everywhere), if you do race events lke autocrossing, how you use your brakes, etc.. theres too many variables.. it depends on your driving, the roads, how you use your brakes, how often, etc..
as for a personal experience.. my stock brake pads lasted about 27K.. for those in nor cal.. you guys know how highway 17 is (curvy and uphill and then curvy and downhill).. I traveled that A LOT (almost daily hehe).. so my brakes wore out pretty quick..

It seriously depends. My car has about the same milage but they are all freeway miles so pads are still good...
edit: to answer the original posters question, you should rotate your tires every 10k miles or so, when you rotate them check the ammount of meat (material) that is still on your brake pads, if there is little to none left, get new pads before the below happens to you
damn dude, please tell me you replaced the rotors too, I imagine they had gouges in them that you could mistake for a canyon.
