difference between gs and ls
The engines are the same.
The suspensions are different on the DC's (94-01) and so are some of the trannies.
The main upgrades of the GS over the LS is:
-Leather interior
-high spring rates
-larger rear sway bar (14mm vs. 13mm)
-15x7 alloy wheels (older GS-R wheels)
Some GS's also got GS-R transmissions, although it's not very consistant.

LS-SE (GS) sedan extras over LS sedan:

The rest is the same, i.e. sunroof, power door locks, power windows, ABS, cruise control, etc.

i think in the later years the difference came to a few different color options, different wheels...maybe. I know in the later years there were 2 different style non-GSR alloys. Those sometimes refered to as the sunflower wheels and then the more soughtafter 97GSR 98+ 10 spoke i believe. However in the lower years it was the RS that didnt come with sunroof, cruise, or ABS. My 94 LS as a sunroof, spoiler, and alloys.....and yes to be consistant with other responses, no leather for LS, only GS. HOwever, im pretty sure the wheels i have were a dealer only option post assembly line.
Maybe you should do some research before you start talking trash.
I have a GS that came with a GS-R tranny. I have a friend with the same tranny in his GS.

k few things, 2nd gen mind you. the ls/gs and the gs-r have the same tranny CODE ys1, but the gears are different, dont ask me why the codes are the same?
and heres a question my friend had a 91 ls w/b18a1 and it redlined at 6500, now my other fried, who let me borrow the car last night cause my girl is buyin it today, had a 92 gs w/b18a1 which redlines at 7000 rpms, both are autos mind you, so what is the reason behind this? are the cams slightly different? is this the 5-10 hp difference you hear about?
btw it has 100k miles, w/i/h/e, and i know who has owned the car since 23k miles, and it wasnt beat on, and we're paying 2000, sounds like agood deal to me, what do u think?

The GS is essentially a GSR with the same engine and tranny as an LS but it shares most other stuff with a GSR. GS's came standard with leather in 97 and 98 whereas the GSR only started coming standard with leather in '99...it was an option before then. GS's stopped sharing the GSR wheels in 1998 when the GSR's got the 6 spoke "blade" wheels and the GS kept the old GSR wheels that it shared with the GSR in 1997. Before 1997 the GS was pretty much a Special Edition because the special edition had everything the GSR had except the motor and tranny and came standard with leather.

k few things, 2nd gen mind you. the ls/gs and the gs-r have the same tranny CODE ys1, but the gears are different, dont ask me why the codes are the same?
quote:
"because that code has nothing to do with what the tranny is...it has to do with what chassis the tranny came from."
is that an integra thing?, cause in the forth gen prelude, all the cars were the same, but the tranny code would tell you if it was a vtec/si/s tranny. thats what i was going by.
how do you tell the difference between the ys1/ls and the ys1/gs-r, cause im in the market for a ys-1/gs-r one.

I know that the G2 Teg manual trannies use the same code. Only way of knowing which is which is by taking it apart (and count the teeth on the gears) or figuring out how many turns (from the flywheel shaft, whatever that's called) to the drive shafts (where the axles gonnect to the tranny). That's how I'd figure the gearing out.
