Hot Air Intake
the starter on my daily quit on me the other day, so i had to drive the project car to work for a week. anyhow, shortly after arriving home from work one evening i leaned on my AEM short ram intake whilst cleaning up the valve cover or something and while i didn't really burn myself, it was hot enough to make me retract my forearm quickly. this got me thinking...i was only running the car for about 20min(how long it takes to get home from work) and it had already gotten quite hot. this cannot be good for performance.
so, the question is - would it be beneficial to put heat-wrap around the intake to cut down on this heat absorption? i realize the actual power gains from this would be slight, if any but i figure if i'm going to do the header, i might as well do this too if it'll help.
feedback?
thanks.

Colder air is denser and makes more power. If your intake is hot, your intake charge is hot.
Try putting a fan directly on your intake the next time you are at the dyno and see what happens.

nothing you can really do about that...heat wraps are ok but don't really make a difference...if you really wanna results ride around with no hood like i do!!!!!
Honestly, I'm not sure if it makes a difference, (definitely not anything noticeable from behind the wheel) but i threw a heat shield on mine, and I heat wrapped it. I got the idea from Tien's 5th generation all motor civic hatch.

thanks for all the input, guys!
i dunno. if i have enough left over from when i do my header, i'll wrap it up and see how i like it.at the very least, i don't think it'll do any harm.

the aem intake you have is aluminum, which contains the heat inside the pipe. the reason the intakes make power is because of the flow design and air the filters. companies like spoon use carbon kevlar because it does not heat soak nearly as much as any of the other materials. problem is... price. no one wants to pay a g for an intake lol
all in all your fine.
