Who here has experienced the "Money Shift" in their s2k?
I had the luck of pulling the infamous 3-2 redline money shift, and managed to not cause any damage what soever, I put the clutch in immediately, gained control of the car that was swerving back and forth violently, and i pulled over and noticed no visual, audible problems.
so I was fortunate enough to survive the money shift.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe he was downshifting into 4th.

i attended this years central pa ITR meet, and i did the money shift, not once, but actually twice. I don't know how, but nothing happened. 6 months prior, i did the money shift in my ITR and bent 4 valves. I learned my lesson. i don't nearly shift as hard as i used to into 4th. i rip through 1-2, but on 3-4 i go fast, but i'm just a tad bit hessitant.
I just think its not worth the chance of screwing anything up for 1 or 2 seconds quicker when all i'm doing is having a lil fun on the street. If we were talking about track time, and I had the money....then thats just different.

I learned via HT to flip your wrist around going in to fourth, which makes your arm swing out instead of in while pulling on the shifter. This way it is damn near impossible to money shift. (I mis-shifted my LS, 2nd @ 85mph, valve adjustment was off by a mile but didn't hurt anything)I haven't had a problem in 3 years and plenty of 3-4 shifts since then in my integra. I also don't force it in to gear, I put pressure on it until it slides in on its own, which seems to be just as fast.

its called the "Johnny racecar shift" technique, and a mis-shift is the result.

Exactly.
I tend to take it much easier on the S than other cars, only because of the weak diff.
That and I take my time because of the delay for the AP2

You know, the same motion you do repeatedly every night that your girlfriend isn't there.

Instead of your thumb being around the top of the shifter, turn your hand so that the thumb goes arounnd the bottom, makes it as if you are pushing it way from you rather than bringing it in.
180* turn of the wrist to the left.

Feels a little gay but i can deal wit it
for all of you that have done the money shift and nothing happened, you could be wrong. you could have cracked retainers. there are usually no symptoms until it is too late and you drop a valve. overrevs on ap1 often cause no bent valves, but do cause cracked retainers. i had cracked retainers due to a misshift by the previous owner. i am lucky the metro crew's s2000 mechanic, billman, caught them before they broke and i blew up my motor with a dropped valve. im sure some of you from the NY/NJ area know billman250 on s2ki.com. he has found 10 ap1s with cracked valve retainers on them before they completely broke. mine was #10 and he found them at s2ki tech day last month. he uses a mirror and flashlight and sees if the retainer is sitting in its proper spot on the valve. the retainers sink and the valve sits higher if they have cracks in them. 6 out of 8 of my intake retainers had small cracks in them. i now have ap2 retainers, which are stronger. so dont think your out of the woods just because you have no symptoms. i suggest you get your retainers looked at just to be on the safe side if you have ever overreved your ap1.

I have been driving for 11 years, I can't say I have ever done this in any of my vehicles. All of my vehicles have been sticks, with the exception of my truck, which I have had for a year.
Yeah I can't imagine ever somehow doing that I have even tried at low speed to purposely go into 2nd from 3rd I don't see how one can do it I know a girl who blew 2 H22's doing this. But I don't see how its possible
this is how everyone should shift.. grabbing the damn shifter and wripping it gear to gear is how things are damaged.. while holding with your thumb on the side and flicking it into gear works better.. sounds sort of gay when on paper lol.. but its the proper way to shift.
