Default turbo b16 (9psi) overheated

i have a b16 on boost (9psi) last night i ran a car and when i looked down i the temp needle was on its way to the red. it got about 3/4 the way up before i saw it and shut it down. when i stopped i went under the hood checkin for coolant leaks but i had none. when i went to restart it, it sounded like it had no compression but when i tried to start it again and gave it some gas it started up fine, no smoke or anything. even though it shows no signs of probelm, can anything be wrong with it goin 3/4 up the temp guage?

1. Is the overflow full?
2. Is there a black film in the overflow tank?
3. Did you hear your fan activate? Have you checked to see if its activating?
4. Have you tried burping the system?

the over flow is not full, i bled the system a while back, fans are working the only thing i dont have in the engine is the thermostat. i wouldnt think that would cause it to over heat though
