Oil change
Hi all, I am thinking of changing my own oil but im not very machanicly inclined. I was hoping some of you do it yourselfers could give me an idea of how it all works and what I need.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
You only need Oil, filter, jack, jackstands and oil filter remover tool. Don't forget the oil drain canister.
Just jack up the car, find the drain plug and unscrew it. (hopefully it isn't hot)lol Let the oil drain, then after the oil is drained unscrew the filter. put the filter in the used oil bucket. Then grab the new filter and put your index finger in the old oil and then rub the oil from you finger on to the new filter gasket. then screw the new filter on the block and turn it 1/2 a turn after it is snug. then put the new oil in. I know this is kinda vague but you get the idea.
Good luck and have fun.
I guess this is kinda a newb 101...??? LOL

--And check your owners manual for spots to jack your car up at...
--Also, the filter might be kind of a bish to get off, so if you have an issue getting your filter off I recommend running to your local autoparts store and buying yourself an oil filter remover tool...
I usually just take a screw driver and jab it into the filter and then turn it off =D
That's kind of ghetto tho...

Go to your local auto parts store and they'll let you know what oil filter to use.
But I must say, if you don't have any of the parts already, it will end up costing you the same amount as it would to take it to Jiffy Lube, at least if the prices there are like the prices we charge at my Jiffy....

You can also use a big pair of vice grips to get the old filter off.
An oil filter wrench is like 15 bucks, and it makes the job soooooo much easier. Id recommend getting one, even though im still too stupid to have bought myself one... I cant tell you how many times ive almost washed up and gone to the parts store to buy one half way through an oil change.

Replace the crush washer on the drain plug. If you buy an oil filter at Honda, ask them for one and they'll give it to you for free. Otherwise it's $.16
6 quarts of oil, 1 filter, 1 crush washer, a jack, oil filter wrench/pliers, socket/wrench for drain plug, oil pan.

5 quarts on my AP2 puts it a little shy of the high mark, I always have to do about 5.1-5.2. Some AP1 owners say they use closer to 5.4. Plus it's always nice to have some to top off in case your motor burns oil between changes.

Mobil 1 and Royal Purple for oil. OEM Honda PCX or AMSOIL HighEfficiency filter.

I just picked up some oil from walmart. 5qrts of Mobile 1 10w-30 for $20. Since this is the first time I've personally changed the oil (only owned it since may), I bought 6 quarts, the 6th will last me 10 changes.
In the manual it says to use 5.1qts. So the tub and a splash. I always have/will use the Honda filter.

so i read somewhere that just keeping the car up with just a jack isn't the safest thing to do since the jack can potentially have a failure and of course, you'll be squeezed to death under. So if you jack it up, where do you put jackstands at? i tried to find a microfiche to post a layout here for any ideas.
if you use the screw driver, didn't do it right and stuck, a pipe wrench works great. i had to remove one that way from my race motorcycle one time.

It's not safe, but how long does it take for you to unbolt the drain plug and crawl back out? Don't tell me you lay under your car while watching the oil drip.
I jack it up from the front side lift points, and slide a jack stand under either subframe bolts, lower the jack til it touches the stand, then lock the jack. If it's more involved work than an oil change, I float the car.
The S2000 has probably one of the most accessible oil filters I've even seen. If you have to use anything other than a standard filter wrench, you suck.
Oh yea, hand tighten + 1/4 turn.

I'd rather pour Crisco in my engine than take to a Jiffy Lube. The ones that come in a can, not the bottle.
