Breaking in new motor... I have questions.
Basically, I had a small little debate with my friend. Another friend of ours, had his motor rebuilt (ls/vtec). After putting about 5-10 miles on the motor, we dropped the oil pan. We had to fix a oil pan bolt that snapped. (Someone seems to be heavy handed) Upon removing the oil pan, we notice light metal shavings in the pan. Is this normal for a newly rebuilt motor? The only thing he reused was his forged rods. I don't think that should be happening, but my other friend is telling me that that is normal for a new motor. I actually hope he is right, so my friend doesn't have to rebuild his motor.
Please give me some good feedback

after 100 miles - your favorite non-syn
after 500 miles - your favorite non-syn
after 1000 miles - your favorite non-syn/synthetic (it is now safe to run synthetic)

Shavings are not normal. Maybe youre not using the right description. Shavings are large, like what happens when you sharpen a pencil in the pencil sharpener. Not normal. If its very fine, sand like, and theres not a ton of it, i wouldnt be concerned. Shavings... not so good.

The metal shavings were more like pencil shavings after being sharpened. Nothing larger than that, but a few a bit smaller.
