I'm trying to figure out a couple probs i have in my 97 ex coupe.

The first is speedo related. I've had the VSS checked out by one of my dads master techs, he says and recomends a new speedo gear located on the Cluster. I called Honda of Bellevue and they said they have the assembly for 170$. Im going to find it hard to fork over 170, when i can get a jdm cluster for less. My question is which gens can i pick off this unit from?

Secondly, i'm having a weird cutout once in a while around 2.5-3k rpms. It feels like the fuel cuts out then if i feather the gas a little it kicks back in.
It can't be a pump right? I just replaced the crappy bosch parts with ngk plugs/wires, denso cap,rotor,fuel filter. Can this be a bad ground? My front ground looks like monkey poo. THanks for any help guys!

 

thats a dead spot and it sounds like your tps =throttle position sensor

expletive ebay. I dont care how much a sensor is, i always buy it at my Honda here in florida, they give me a free replacement warranty on it.

 

the concensus is that its the TPS then...? I bought one from Kteller, Would the tps have any affect on the vtec kicking in?
