Default ? about final drives and slick size selection...

I know alot of people switch the final drive to a 4.6 or 4.785 JDM FD on there all motor cars. How does that affect performance when you end up going with a larger slick size? I would think with the stock 4.4 FD you could go with a smaller diameter slick and achieve the same results.

The only difference I can think of would be the contact patch upon launching. I would think the 24.5x8 slick would have a larger contact patch than a 22x8. Considering the width being equal between the two, the larger slick would have the longer contact patch. Then also inflation of the slick would be a determining factor.

Is there any performance or mechanical gain from having the 4.785 FD when you end up going with a larger slick?
