Rebuilt GsR head......On the way to get my car tuned but it just couldnt happen!!
SO last week got my head rebuild with new flat faced valves springs retainers new pro series intake manifold new head gasket and arp head studs skunk 2 stage 2 cams and cam gears bpi velocity stack and filter.... I was a happy dude but my mechanic told me have to get it tuned asap because idle was a little off. I kept the block stock because I was gonna change the piston later on like next month and I hear the stage 2s are good for stock compression . Mind you it was smoking a little for burnnig oil but nothing to serious. So I drive it around and its cool for the next day or so I didnt really take it into Vtec because I didnt want anything geetting worse... Now it comes time for my tune and Im headed out to his shop. I notice its started to smoke a little more than usual. Like if I came to a stop, a cloud of smoke would blow to the front Get to the shop and they take a look at the work. They remove my spark plugs to find that cylinder 1 and 2 have oil on the plugs so I know for a fact now my rings are done(unless its something else I dunno) So they hook the ecu up to the computer cuz I was gonna street tune den dyno the rest. They start the car and they are saying the valves sound like they are too loose(wrong valve adjustment to the spec of the cams I believe) and I also got a check engine light for my intake air temp sensor and my exhaust sounds very choppy from before. Took the sensor off and it has oil or some black grime on it. My boy who is also my tuner said it can be from the rings and the oil is shooting up in the manifold. So they did not want to tune it really because of the bad condition of the block. So what Im saying the shop that assembled my head.. are they to be held liable for anything? Like shouldnt they have performed a compression test to see the condition of the motor before working on it? So now I have to get my bottom end rebuilt and till then I gotta live with it smoking. My boy said to run a thicker oil until I redo the block like 10w-40 or 20w 50. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for all your help!
Why would the shop who perform work on your head be liable for a problem that your block is having?
Not trying to be a dick or anything. Hope you get it taking care of.

I dunno I figured they would have done a compression test before starting work jus so we can order some new pistons and rings when the head was taken off
Usually if you go in and tell them that you just want the head built, they will reccomend rebuilding the bottom end to support the head. cause then your bottom end will be the weakest link. Even with stage 2 cames, you should go with more compression to get the most out of the cams. Just think of the smoke as blessing in disguise, now you have a reason to rebuild the block and upgrade your pistons.
Do a compression and/or leak down. Check the valve adjustment.
How's your coolant level? Smoking (white smoke) can be from coolant entering the combustion chamber through the head gasket.
