violent shaking.. no idea
i have a automatic 2004 honda accord with 60k miles. recently ive had some shaking, it gets really bad in the 55mph-65mph range.. i just got new tires and had a rotation so i am out of ideas really.. i kinda wasn't worried about the shaking because i thought i knew i needed to get my tires balanced. any ideas?
Well, to tell you, I got my tires from Sears, they asked me if I wanted my tires balanced or not. That was like 5 yrs ago. Check your receipt. It should says what you paid for. I know Costco does it for you. (new valves, balancing, and other good stuff)
How about your tire pressure? Good? Are your lug nuts properly torqued on?

i bought falkens.. nice tires btw but the lugs are on and everything. the car does shake a tiny tiny bit when im going all speeds but its mostly faster that it does it

the problem is on the old tires and new tires.. the vibrating at 60 is worse the faster im accelerating if that helps anyone some up with and ideas.. : ( i hope its nothing with my drive train.. what about the transmition?
Is it in the steering wheel or in the seat of your pants that you can feel it most? If it's mostly in the steering wheel it's a problem up front. Where you say you have had the tires balanced and rotated I would take your car back to the shop that did it and have them take a look at the wheel balance again. If that checks out OK then it could be a ball joint, wheel bearing or alignment problem.

you say you bought tires and had a rotation? I assume you bought 2 and rotated the other two? Are the two new on the front or the existing tires. Either way 90% all steering wheel vibrations at highway speeds can be traced to an imbalance of the front wheels..... get your front wheels at least balanced.
i haven't checked the axles yet. the vibration is felt mostly in the gas pedal during acceleration if i accelerate really slowly i feel it less.. how do i check a ball joint or rear motor mount? i got 4 tires not just 2 so i have good tires all around. i have free balance and alignment for a year so i can check that again for free.. are the ideas anything getting narrowed down?
To check your suspension, all you need is a jack and a bit of muscle in your arms.
Jack the car up enough to get the wheels clear of the ground. To check your tie rod ends place your hands at the 10:00 & 2:00 positions then push and pull the tire back and forth. If there is a clunk or jerky movement then it could be the inner or outer tie rod. If you have someone there to move the tire for you, you should be able to look behind the tire and see the tie rod's improper jerking movement.
The same goes for the upper and lower ball joints. Place your hands at 12:00 & 6:00 and push and pull the tire. If you feel any play then the top or bottom ball joint may be gone. You will be able to see if it is the upper ball joint very easily. With the car jacked up it is visable at the 12:00 position directly above your tire. In order to see if it is the bottom ball joint you will have to look in behind the tire while you/someone gives'er a shake.
If you do not see any of the above mentioned parts moving and there is some play in the tire/wheel than it is your wheel bearing that will need replacing.
Hope this didn't confuse you, I didn't have time to take any pics to help visualize. If it seems a bit overwhelming, I would sugest going to your local parts store and picking up a Haynes manual for your car. It should have diagrams of what I was talking about

ok thats great i checked. i didn't have anyone with me to see which one was he one acting up but it was giving play for the ball joints on the right and left side of the car. im guessing it would be better to narrow it down so i don't spend unnecessary money but you did help. i may have someone help be to look at it to possibly rule out the bearings for sure.
when i was moving the tires the up down motion did nothing as far as moving back and forth. the side to side motions were definately noticeable. thanks for the help, and if you have anymore tips as far as websites to buy or more help on narrowing it down i would really appreciate it.
thanks again

I have the same problem with my 2004 EX accord coupe. I have about 65,000 miles and it just started shaking at about 55 mph while I accelerate. If I let off the gas and then gradually accelerate it's not as bad. It actually lessens up when I am cruising at 70 mph with my foot barely on the gas.
I needed new tires, so I though the tires were the problem. I took it to STS to get new tires and told them about the shaking. The asked me if the car had been in a serious accident and said I needed new axles. I have had the car since it was brand new, and have never had any accident. I took it to another mechanic that I know and he said it looked like the axles too. He replaced both front axles and the shaking is still there. BTW, STS balanced the tires while they had the car. Were you able to stop the shaking, or does anyone else have any ideas on what it could be?

If the shaking is prominent moreso in acceleration, from prior experience, it has been worn/wearing axles. When I bought my car, I had the violent shaking problems while accelerating at higher speeds. I could feel the front end shake under acceleration, and I could hear the CV joints "popping" around turns. Replaced the axles and the problem was solved.

check your inner cv axle joints i hav a 91 accord(wagon) with a f22a6 on 10 psi/5 speed
my inner cv axles were bad and under accelraton would vibrate your teeth out also if you let off the gas it would do the same i thought it was the trans but it was the cv axles
good luck
