Default "side air bag off" light.....

has any one noticed if their "side air bag off" light has ever gone on when parked after driving and while the engine is still on???? I recently noticed that my "side air bag off" light has been on when my car is still on and the car is on first or reverse. And yes i know it turns on right when you turn on the car. It goes away but after driving and then parking/stop, it has gone on. This has happened to me twice.

Has anyone had this problem...and if so... why?

....but if not....does anyone know what it might be or how this can be fixed/resolved?

thank guys.

open comments are cool.

my "side air bag off" light goes on when my passenger leans or hangs around the window. other than that it never goes on.

yeah it happens when someone leans or looks out and applies pressure towards the side seats...where the air bag goes...so the sensor goes off. just dont lean and it won't come on.

if you place items less than 60 pounds on the seat it reacts as if a small child is sitting there and will shut the airbag off as a precaution

Weird, now a bunch of threads on the passenger side air bags. I think this the 3rd on the last few hours.

Like someone else mentioned, the seat belt buzzer does not go off. At least, when I am driving with my computer bag on the passenger seat, the passenger airbag light is on, but the seat belt buzzer is not.

Are you setting a back pack with books on the seat? or a laptop bag?

Simple test. Make sure the seat is empty. Then, while at a stop light or while parked, lean over and apply a bit of pressure to the middle of the seat. You should be able to feel the sensor depress if you know to feel for it. Within a couple seconds, the passenger side airbag light should come on.

If this is the case, you have nothing to worry about. It's a safety feature that's meant to keep kids from dying from airbags.

If the light is coming on when the seat is empty, then you need to go to the stealership to get it checked out.
