Default b18c1 All motor build Q/A

Hey... im putting a b18c1 in my car and ive decided that id like to go all motor and maybe Squeeze >.< but.. the problem is i live at about... 6000 feet altitude...!!!! O_O and... all motor sucks out here. but my question is... what setup can i build the most power out of on pump gas... reliably... like.. id like to get a full bottom end build... all forged 11.5:1... although.. id like to go to the limit with my comp ratio... and what cam kit should i go with? ive heard good things about buddy club.. and skunk 2 as well.. i was looking into it and buddy club spec 3's look like my best bet... i also need it as a daily driver so.. =P.. and what internals should i get? i dont know where to get good pistons... and id rather not buy from ebay.. ive had a bad history.. so any help and id be greatful.. thanks

well this was what i was thinking.. so maybe people dont think im a complete idiot... i was thinkin buddy club spec 3's full retainer and spring and valves mugen header and test pipe... mild port polish... and its cruicial that i forge the bottom end... so i was thinking je 11.7:1... and eagle H beam rods... and i wasnt sure wich intake mani to get... but the high altitude is whats so gay cuz imma need to squeeze every inch of HP out of the motor.. cuz air is so thin ;P

Here you go

Wiseco 81.5 mm 12.5:1 compression pistons
Eagle H beam rods
Omni High compression valves
Valve springs and retainers (recomend omni, rev, anything you can get)
Buddy Club Spec IV cams. (with that compression these cams will be great)
Adjustable cam gears
Performer X manifold (I think thats what its called alothough I dont know for sure if its avalible for the GSR.)
Some thottle body
ASP Header (new but they are the poop)http://advancedstreetperformance.com/
2.5 inch straight through exhaust.
You might need some injectors and a fuel pump
Tune it all on crome and you should be good for at least 200 whp

if ur running a gsr head on the block then no it wont run on pump. it happened to me with my setup. i was using je 12.5:1 pistons and because the gsr head has a small combustion chamber and i was using flat faced valves it would knock alot on 94 octane. so i inturn went with a b16 head and just ran the flat faced valves and never had a problem.

my setup is a gsr bottom end with a stock bore. je 12.5:1 pistons, eagle h-beams, arp rod bolts on a balanced crank shaft with acl bearings. the head is fully ported with NO polish b16 head buddy club flat faced valves, buddy club springs and retainers with buddy club spec 4 cams and buddy club cam gears. made around 225whp with a good tune on it. if ur looking to go crazy and get every single ounce of power out of it there r other ways to do it like stroking and sleeving the motor. with an eagle 95mm crank and a resleeve punched out to 85mm ur gonna have a 2.2L motor and ur gonna make alot more power and torque but it will cost u. the reason i say no polish is because u want more turbulance in the head to allow the fuel to stay atomized. and when the air and fuel mix better it creates a better combustion and your motor will last a lil longer and react better to u beating the **** out of it. if u polish it it causes the air to be less turbulant which inturn wont atomize fuel as well. also when the exhaust gas is expelled out of the head u want the some what rough surface area of the port to reatomize the unburnt fuel thus making it so that u have a more efficent burn of the fuel.

ya... i just want something reliable and quik... im not really worried about being the fastest.. but... how much of a difference will there be to run 11:5:1 and 12:5:1? or i mean.. whats the power difference.. and.. does a b16 head bolt up to the gsr block? and is there any customization needed? cuz this is all going into my 95 ex coupe

I live at a ludacris altitude as well, which is my worst enemy as an all motor enthusiast, however everything is sucking the same air so dont lose too much sleep over it.

not that I have no love for spoon fed cookie cutter builds... but if that motor lays 200 whp at 6000 ft altitude with safe daily timing/afr's I would pay for the build and the tuning

Yeah im not to sure about the altitude thing. corrected though it should make 200.

You had a bad tuner. sorry. The GSR head only adds about .3 to the overall compression. You should have no problem at all with 12.5:1. I cars with this compression all the time on the dyno running pump gas and making good power.

really??? cause even with the cams set to 0 i had alot of knock when the motor got warm. when it was cold there was alil knock but no where near as much as when the engine got warm. the gsr head i had was also using flat faced valves and the head was decked a lil which also brought the comp ratio up higher. my comp ratio was well above 12.5:1 with all that. which is y i went with the b16 head.

Ahh the first time you never said anything about the head being milled. That could make a serious diffrence. I was going to go with an 86mil 13:1 block on 92 octane, with a b16 head, but decided not to buy it. That would have been fun.

ok so 12:5:1 is possible? on pump? and i was looking at the spec 4's and it says u need a manditory 12:5:1 c/r... so im guessing i cant go lower with the c/r? or can i? also... if the 12:5:1 wisco pistons are on a gsr block... and u say a gsr head gives u .3 more comp ratio... then im guessing the b16 head takes .3? or no? and if it does... wouldnt that bump my c/r with 12:5:1 to 12:2:1? ... i just want 200 whp uncorrected... but remember.. i would really like to use nitrous... but only as a back up not an everyday spray motor.. and ofcourse it would be a wet shot cuz i dont wanna risk the saftey of the motor.. also.. can i use s300 instead of crome? cuz i picked up my coupe for 500 $ running.. but its an auto.. i found the pedals and everything i need.. but can hasport rework my harness for a 94 gsr setup? and then can i run s300 off that?

also if my ratio falls to 12:2:1 can i still use spec 4's? i understand what your all saying and im not trying to sound honda illiterate.. but ive never built a motor.. and ill be doing my own because i dont wanna have some one elses work into my car.. but i just wanna get it right .. and im sure u guys can understand that.

you would be fine with bc 5s in even the 11.5:1 range. If you really want to get a good idea of your compression use a compression calculator just google it.

if the weisco pistons are rated for a gsr block then im sure weisco took in to consideration that the gsr has a smaller combustion chamber. im sure they rated the pistons accordingly. spec 4's would be good. i wouldnt run anything more than the bc4's cause there huge lol and to really take advantage of the bc5's u would need a higher comp ratio. your comp ratio isnt going to be 12.5:1 there are alot of things that must be taken into consideration in order to rate the comp ratio. for instance cumbustion chamber cc's, if the head has been milled or not, what valves u go with. and ur static compression ratio is goin to be lower than 12.5:1 its probably more along the lines of 12.2:1. anything above an 11.5:1 in my opinon is bc4 worthy. of course u can use the s300 over crome. if ur gonna use nitrous i would get a piston that can be safely used with nitrous (they have a special coating or summin for n2o applications.) hasport can rework ur harness but ur gonna pay for it lol i would just pick up and ex manual harness. (maybe itll cost u 100 bucks for the ex harness but its plug and play.) what i really think you should do is go to ur local import speed shop and bullshit with the guy there. hell tel u what to do and what not to do. 12.5:1 pistons will work. u just need to figure out what u wanna do. bc4's will work too.

I meant bc4s not 5s.

GTFO and make your own thread, oh and while your gone... read the rules too you fucktard.

also, as far as the GSR head issue is concerned... th actual compression added may only be a cpl points, but the gsr head has the flat pads that overhang (quelch pads i thnk they are called) the piston head... thats a doosey of a place for a bit of preignition to happen.

When I put mine it I upgraded the hole valve train, got a valve job, some porting, and cam gears. Then I tuned the car. It killed my LMAs but that happens not it just ticks loud.

u must tune for those cams. the bc4's are like twice as big as oem cams. lol bc4's r huge.
