Default B18 crx, header no go

alright boys, the setup is a b18c1 in a 91 crx, i just tried to put in a megan 4-1 header but the crossmember bangs against the header...so i don't wanna drop 200+ bucks on a aftermarket crossmember, and i was just wondering if it is safe to cut off a bit of the crossmember in order to make it fit, and if anybody would happen to know how much to cut off that would be greatly appreciated...thanks
