Overcoming Survival Reactions
I just started reading Twist of the Wrist II (the beginner one), and it starts off with learning how to tame survival reactions like hitting the brakes in a curve and tensing your arms up.
Well one of the guys i know from another fourm http://www.zr-7forums.com posted this. This guy was on a FZ1, he was leading a group of riders of varying skill level, dragged a peg, freaked out and hit the brake and went wide. He's ok (broken wrist and some bruises) but the bike is a goner.
I haven't gotten very far in the book, but i think this is an example of what the book is saying you have to learn to control...anyone else experience this? The day I got my bike I dragged a peg in a parking lot and i immediately jerked my foot off that peg and the bike started seesawing...then stood up. Kinda scared me of the pegs. I guess I have to work on that.
RIP Mr. FZ1

SR (Survival Reactions) are hard to overcome. But just knowing about them and their effect on your operation of the bike is half the battle. There have been many times when I have had the time to overcome them. But there have also been times when I was so suprised that I blew it and went into SR. Furtunatley, those times that it happened, I had the time or space required to get out anyway. This is another reason why you need to run at less than 100% on the street.
It can really humble you to revert to an SR. Kinda rips that big "S" right off your chest

I have fought those SR's on several occasions.. and panicking was the toughest one... breaking on turns when panicking was second.. hehe..
i have overcome most of them.. but they are always there rearing their ugly head..
