Are you guys being useless HT'ers or have you actually had experience with these cams?
There's just a handful of people out there who've tried these... and if they're worth it or not, they're the ones to tell you.
Besides, 10 whp on a ~100 whp car is a fat 10% gain -> it's not actually that bad. Sure, it's still no race car but I'd sure enjoy another 10 whp getting around town.

Based on cost effectiveness, $250 isn't something I'd spend to get a mere 10whp out of a D17. I'd spend that money on a used y8 manifold and some welding time from a professional welder, to get the D17 prepped for boost. And, if you're really careful with the money, you could have a few more parts in line for a budget turbo kit. 6psi from a budget turbo kit will provide a lot more hp than the same money put into a n/a buildup.
PS. I have seen what the cams (available for the d17 as of about 4 months ago), can do.

how many HP do you think your car actually uses going around town?

you buy everthing I have for three grand

i would like to see a dyno chart of this cam that provides our SOHC motor with an additional 10 WHP. At least provide me with a link to this cam. IMO 10 whp for $250 is not that bad at all, however, i seriously doubt that there is a steetable camshaft that provides our motor with that much additional power.
Well i know for a fact there are a few vids on Youtube.com, if you go to youtube and type in d17a2 in the search bar there will be a silver civic running the stage 2 comp cam offers for our cars. Doesnt look that much quicker than stock def. is a lot lumpier at idle.

LMAO, yeah cuz you know you need an intake and exhaust cam on a single over head cam motor, lol. Will your at it you might as well pick up that 9 speed manual tranny to always keep ur car in Vtakkk, lol

I believe on the dyno vid towards the comments below the vid they said 16 hp. is acheivalbe with an AEM MS.

I dont know about you... but I paid for them, I'm gonna use them at some point or another.
To be exact though, it only uses 15 when cruising.
As far as the cams go, several pretty reputable tuners have made the comment that the S2 turbo cam does very little. The S3 cam on the other hand, does quite a bit, especially when combined with high boost.
When Andy (Andyman97) was tuning his car on crazy boost, the S2 cam did very little for gains beyond 260 HP, switching to the S3 yielded significant gains. Having ridden in his car, the S3 cam is pretty lumpy, but still streetable, although I think you really need the rest of the motor for it.
The S2 cam, as far as I can tell (I have one) puts the power down a lot smoother than the stock one. Its designed to optomize the head flow, and get air moving quickly, which it seems to do. As far as gains, I dont have a number because the setup changed too much to get an accurate comparison. Not sure it added top end, but probably gains midrange by opening it up.

A little off topic but could some one point me to a source for engine building. I.E. like a guide on what each part does and how difrent after market engine internals help. Im saving so that after i get back from iraq i can just drop in a k20a2 rebuild it and then boost the living crap out of it.
Only problem is that im not expert on cars as im just 18 and have only been working on my car for the past year. I know faq has some info on that but i was thinking more like an easy/understanble guide on how to upgrade internals and get the engine ready for high boost.
Most of all i just want that cool as BOV sound..... Man i love that TISS sound.

The best way, IMO, to learn what aftermarket parts do, is to understand how an internal combustion engine works. Once you understand that, then you know the formula to more power is adding more fuel and air to the cylinders. A good website to learn about how engines work is howstuffworks.com.
Basically, aftermarket engine parts just create a more efficient way of stuffing more are and fuel in the combustion chamber. The purpose of aftermarket parts like pistions, rods, valve springs, etc. are to deal with the added power of things like turbochargers.
As far as camshaft(s), they increase the duration and lift of the valve openings. Thus allowing more air into the cylinders.
The most important thing about aftermarket parts that I think you should know, is to research and have a plan. Learn what parts go with each other, for example, you would not want a turbo camshaft if you were building your motor to be naturally aspirated. Also, don't buy parts that you know you will end up replacing later, another example, don't buy and intake if your planning on boosting, because you will just end up replacing the intake later.
Also, if you planning on boost, think about the other parts of you car that might need to be upgraded, the clutch for instance.
Hope that helped.

Come on man we all have a little river in us all.... you know its true. Im just geting a turbo for the bov sound... (Although i do love the TISS) I want a project and an end goal in mind. I dont realy care about track times or any car events i just wana have fun working on a project. I love doing projects and this is just another one i want to work on. I know its going to cost alot im been looking around at prices im thinking its gona be 10grand just for parts. and at least 4 days to drop the engine in let along boosting and upgrading internals.
Thanks for the pointers petty$rep. I know the basics just its all other over stuff that kinda confuses me. I know the basics of how an engine works but not how to tune or do alot of other stuff. As i said im rather new to this. Took me a good 5 hours to install a header back exuast system.
About the parts stuff. I know i will have to replace alot of stuff later on. Intake i got for free, header was cheep so that works. I went to this one place that had alot of info on it its called car bibles. Pretty good but i allways need more help.
Wana know somthing sad? iv dumped well over 3grand into my car and i still havent changed my damn oil....

lol! I know I was just warning/giving you a hard time... I used to have a tsi... want some noise go with the external waste gate as well haha
Turbo are def. fun just read up and make sure you know what your doing before you tear your engine apart (from boosting that is)

yeah, you might want to change your oil.....that's kinda a big deal.
as for tuning, you can just take your car to a tuner and have them do it for you. Or you can buy software for your computer and tune it yourself. I would recomend going to someone with experience your first time.
