Default Fuel Smell in a 1992 Accord

After my car sits overnight and I start it in the morning and stay still, there is a fuel odor (of course driving does not allow you to smell it). If I drive it a couple of blocks and sit again, the smell comes back. After about 10 minutes, it will be gone and will not come back even after leaving my car sit until lunch. Any ideas?

The fuel lines run underneath the car, probably on the left side (not sure for '92). Check them for pinhole leaks from corrosion.

Under the rear seat or under the trunk floor carpet (not sure for '92) look for round access hatches. Open em up & see. Maybe one for fuel pump & one for fuel gauge sender, maybe they're both together. Check the fuel line fittings for leaks & corrosion.

Thanks for the tips. But wouldn't I smell fuel before starting the car if there was a leak? Or do you think that the leak occurs while the pump is actuated? I only smell it after starting the car for about 10 mintues the first time the car is started for the day. After that, it does not seem to matter.

If the corrosion has just barely begun to get thru the fuel supply line it would leak when pressurized. Just enough to smell but not enough to make a puddle under the car. After the car's parked it evaporates & then leaks so slowly there's barely any smell. That would sorta fit what you just said. Sounds like it's probably not leaking at the tank itself or it would leak all the time.

Still, if the supply line is corroding, then the other lines probably are too. Along with the brake lines that run in the same tray under the car... I'd carefully inspect all that stuff.
