Default S2000 with Rev Hard Turbo Kit running into problems...HELP...

Just installed this turbo kit and while tunning, piston number 2 compression test went down to 75 to 80 psi and after putting oil on the piston, went to close to 100 psi. All other pistons are at 185 to 190 psi. Went to a local speed shop and they ran me a diagnostics and yup... piston number two ring is gone bye bye... they are charging me 1400 dollars for installing CP piston rings on all 4 pistons, metal head gasket to lower compression on all pistons, arp head studs, hone the block and resurface the head. Those this sound about right...? And will it hurt me to drive the car like grandma style for a couple of days cause this is my daily driver... Smoke comes out from the breather and the dip stick comes out only when I drive it to 7 pounds of boost. Now I don't think I should run the car to build boost at all cause I am scared to damage the engine more. Sucks for me...!!!

Dude, this is retarded.

So you figure out the piston ring is gone, and yet, you still drive it?!?!? AND STILL BUILD BOOST on it!!!!

R U RETARDED?

well the 1400 they are going to charge you will be more, add a new block to the list if you keep doing that retarded stuff.

Anyway, to answer your question I;d say 1400 is a good price for a Build, Head gasket, ARP studs, a nice hone, and a resurfaced head.

PS: you won't be able to hone it if you keep scratching up the wall with the ringlands and eventually throw the piston threw the wall.

you probably did more damage than hurt just a piston ring.

i havent heard of anyone doing much of a hone job w/ these blocks. because of the material used.

ur best bet. sleeve the block build it right. or buy another stock short block

There are plenty of guys daily driving with 450+whp bone stock. If you wanna push more then 10psi you really need to get a 3mm HG. inlinepro sells one thats works great. internals are forged from the factory on the s2k

Relax... After what happened, I didn't drive the car barely... Drove my girlfriend's hatch... I am taking my S2K to the shop this morning to get the job done. They did a leak down test yesterday and yup... piston 1 is at 35%... need piston ring on this one, piston 2 is at 40%... piston ring too, piston 3 is at 10%... this one is going soon and piston 4 is at 5%... this one is still good but I am replacing all piston rings. It has only been two days since this all happened so according to the speed shop, the owner, AEM certified technician, the block is still fine and the engine is still strong.... told me I should be fine... I am going to school for 4 months anyways so I am dropping off the car tto them... I will be posting more after the aftermath of all this mess... Thanks for the posts....

Like the previous post... S2K engine blocks come already strong from factory... just gotta re-enforce little things like piston rings and lower the engine compression for this turbo set up...

It can hold way more than that. Just get a 3mm head gasket and you're good to around 500rwhp.

If you're car is going to be a dialy driver, you shouldn't put turbo on a stock motor that didn't come with turbo stock! So what if you boost low...mock my words, but you'll regret it throughout time. Now if you want to build it for turbo, that's another story. Have it built the right way internally and just don't drive it every day! This is IMO

Car IS in the shop now... and Yes I am getting a 3 MM gasket put on... This turbo set up is just the base set up at low boost... I am curently ordering an engine block f20c engine with sleeves, pistons and rods, and the whole works... after building this f20c block, everything on the old engine is going to go to the re-enforced engine and the old engine is going to be a spare engine so if something is wrong with the re-enforced engine, I can just re-install the good one while the damaged one is under repairs. I should have the spare engine by next summer. According to the speed shop that my car is in, the engine block piston rings were not strong enough for this turbo set up so they began working to re-enforce the rings for the set up and they guarrantee that these CP piston rings should be excellent for this turbo set up... the engine has more than 90000 miles on it so they are doing an engine overhaul as well including the 3 mm head gasket, new valve cover gasket and everything else they need for an engine re-build. This car is going to be A-OK...!!! I will be posting the progress in the near future...

So far... this is what I have...
AEM EMS
Rev Hard Turbo Kit (550 injectors, Walboro fuel pump, down pipe, T3-T4 60 trim turbo, vacum lines, necessary piping and assesories... )
Sparko Boost Gauge
NGK R Laser Platinum Spark Plugs
Eibach Pro Kit Springs
18" Axis Wide Track Staggered Rims
PS" I will put pictures of the car as soon as possible or check out myspace for the slide shows I got of the car... "
-----------------------------------------------
By end of AUG 07 Installed
Resurfice head and install 3mm Head gasket ---> To lower compression
Hone block and install CP Piston rings ---> Old piston rings bad
-----------------------------------------------
SEPT-OCT time frame....
Oil Catch Can and better breather going back to intake for lowering oil pressure
Oil Cooler Kit

You will be rebuilding it again after they are done, CP doesnt make pistons for the stock motor, or that is at least what they told me.

Go to CP Piston's web site and they can custom make pistons for any diameter of any car. I am leaving it to the Speed Shop's responsability to measure the piston and piston rings diameters and they fill out the CP piston company's form to order the piston and piston rings for my car... Check it out ....

stock pistons vs cp's will have different expansion rates / piston to wall clearances and ring end gap.

you probably damaged the piston itself anyways.

if your shop told you the piston rings werent strong enough, then i would without a doubt take your car to a shop that actually knows what they are talking about.

good luck.

Thanks for the post's... All I can do is wait. My car is in the hands of the Speed shop now. All I want is for them to fix the car and make it safe for me to drive... Low boost is fine for me... for now. After the funds are available and I bought my little second work car, 2 to 3 thousand dollar civic, then I'll be putting some real crazy things on the S2K... making it my weekend car for fun...!!! As soon as I have passed the trial period here, I'll be posting the pictures here... All my friends and even people I don't know like at the gas station tell me my car is the ****.... Soon you peps will maybe tell me the same... hm... I dunno... Thanx... I need some luck...

It's not your rings that are bad... I'm sure it's the ringlands.

Ring lands...??? Hm... I don't know too much about the F20c engine but I hope the Speed Shop that has my car can fix any problem my s2000 has... They are going to have the engine apart by this friday and the Tech will diagnose the interior of the engine... I will know by then what is wrong with the engine... hopefully nothing too serious... If so, it should be fixed by the end of this month... hopefully...

Here is the after math... The shop told me the engine is apart and I have two bad pistons. They are going to purchase for me re-enforced pistons and rods, don't know what brand yet, on monday and re-building my block to work well with the rev-hard turbo kit I have installed on my S2000... The engine block is still good and the interior areas as well... this was their analisys of my engine... might as well go all the way and re-enforcing the enterior of my engine as well... 3 inch metal Gaskets and all to lower the engine compression ratio as well... APR head studs, ect... Sometime close to the 31st of this month is when I might have another post of the results of the re-building of my engine. Hopefully after, my car will be running back to normal until I have finally bought my second car by the end of this year and have the s2000 for weekends....

It's not necessarily the size of the piston, but the materials used, as Mase said.

That is why the Speed Shop that got my car is going to replace the pistons and rods with re-enforced piston rings... After honing my block... As soon as I get out of the trial phase, I'll post pictures of the car fixed up hopefully by the 31st of this month...

there is no "re enforced" rings.. they are just rings and ringlands....
