Default Fresh re-build not responding like it should, HELP!!!

i did a fresh re-build o my engine:
B18C1 block (honed .25 over) rods balanced with JDM ITR OS pistons
Type R oil pump new H2O pump, gaskets, seals ect.
BCIII+ cams, BC cam gears, Sk2 dual springs Ti retainers,
non-ported B16 head w ITR mani and T.B.
Poor Mans Icebox (K&N filter) set up.
4-1 ZR headers 2.25" exhaust w cat 9might be melted inside????)
06 civic Si muffler.
P28 with 3 chips: 1-mugen 2-ITR 3-custom
The car is not running as good (fast) as i thought it would be especially when v-tec kicks in it actually stops pulling for a while. I am still breaking in the engine (~400mi on it) and am not popping v-tec all day. im using 10W-30 reg oil with fram filters for now until 600mi then again then at 1K miles honda filter and Mobil 1.
Please help if you know what might be the problem. maybe bigger injectors, retarding the ex cam, check the cat???? i dont know.

lol, thanks guys. i know the importance of tuning through personal (endless) testimonies of performance enhancement and of course; tuning. im waiting for about 1000mi before i run it hard. i have 1 more cheapy oil change at 600mi then the Mobile1 and Honda filter go on the bad-***, lol. would the tuner handle that flat spot (FOR SURE or maybe)????? which intake set-up should i use with this build???
1-P.M Icebox OEM type R intake arm
K&N filter
OEM air box
3" tubing that leads behind the turn signal w/4" horn
(its all air tight by the way, sealed the box with clear silicone)
2- an Injen CAI w/new Injen air filter
3- a Velocity Stack either on a short ram or on the CAI
Which one would have a better response?? I have them all and am probably going to sell the others.
CAST YOUR VOTES NOW FELLAS: 1, 2, or 3???

and i don't know man, it just seems to me that you have some quality parts and really don't know what you are doing.....i don't want to sound like a dick, but you need a pnp head to max those cams, and of course a tune would help out with the laziness of the motor at the cross-over.......i guess its all trial and error though, goodluck

You have a good amount of parts that'll put out good hp numbers, but your execution has completely lost direction.

First, I didn't notice you mentioning the setting on your cam gears. Are you using OEM settings or are they adjusted at all??

Second, you're trying to put together a strong setup, but you cheap yourself out with : <FONT COLOR="red">4-1 ZR headers 2.25" exhaust w cat 9might be melted inside????)</FONT> If you want to really pull out the power from your motor, a 2.5" collector header is what you need to start looking into.

I have no idea what the diameter of the axle back/muffler section piping is on a 06 civic Si muffler, but I would assume it was less than 2.25". Maybe you're looking for that stock look and quiet sound, but all that'll do is restrict you.

P28 with 3 chips: 1-mugen 2-ITR 3-custom - How is your custom program made for your setup if you have had no dyno time and no tuning? Is the mugen program mapped for a motor of your setup? Even if it were, all motors will perform differently which is why a custom tune will yield you the best results. Mugen, spoon, toda,J's, whoevers chip map may feel good to you, but it really may be doing things to your engine you're not aware about.

You got block work done, how come no port work on the head? That makes almost no sense to me, especially when you seem to be aiming for the 200+hp mark.

I'm not sure how much you researched your setup, but it just seems a bit jumbled together. It has potential, but everything needs to be more organized.

thanks man. i had block work done becasue the block needed to be honed for the OS pistons, and the previous owner had abused the car so the machinist told me the 2nd and 3rd rods were out of wack. the exhaust is 2.25" all the way,the cat will be hollowed out very soon and the muffler is to keep a low key with the local police (their bastards about exhaust, already had encounters and dont want more) As for the chips, they were just thrown in when i bought the P28, I know their just stepping stones that is why at 1000mi I will tune my car. oh yeah...the cam gears are both at 0 degrees for now. i might retard the exhasut a degree and run it, then another to check it how it performs

Sorry to be off topic, but how much did that setup cost you (parts, Machine work, etc)

lol, im learning as much as i can. the set-up took a while since i shopped around for the best damn deals possible. a bunch of the stuff i took off i sold like the Dc 4-2-1- headers, VAFCII, pumps, springs retainers, OEM muffler, CTR pistons, shiftter ect...for a total of about $500 so in reality i spent about 1K on the complete re-build. -"ye-ah boi"

Haha, we can say you inspired my post.

Injen cold air. When you go for your tune, bring your velocity stack and do a run with it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by integratee &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">oh yeah...the cam gears are both at 0 degrees for now. i might retard the exhasut a degree and run it, then another to check it how it performs</TD></TR></TABLE>

Do you and your motor a favor: Just wait till you get it tuned to adjust cam gears and such.
