Crank Pulley for 88 CRX
Hey guys, I need some advice/guidance here. My mechanic told me I needed a new harmonic balancer (crank pulley) for my 88 CRX DX. There is a vibration that can be felt in the steering wheel when you start the car. So I said cool, and went on hondapartscheap.com and ordered a brand new pulley. When it got here, I dropped the car off and got a call a few hours later saying it did not fit.
What I bought was a 24MM snout pulley and this "weird" 88 had a design change in that year and switched from a 22MM to a 24MM.
My mechanic was cool as hell and put the old one back on and did not charge me a thing. He did tell me the crankshaft looked fine but I did need a new pulley. He said it was crap. I can not find this part anywhere. I have called several local and online Honda dealers and they can not get a hold of it. I am kinda stuck. I read that a 86-89 Integra pulley was 22MM and would work, but I dont trust one random post on the net and I cant have my mechanic rip this stuff apart again with another wrong part.
Any advice/comments to help me? PS....hondapartscheap was cool too. They refunded my money for the incorrect part. I recommend them as a "parts place"
I kinda wish I bought another year car....Between the seats and this, the 88 is an odd ball.

I think the part # for the older 22mm pulley is 38921-PM3-Y00 and it should cost less.
The bad news is this particular pulley has no harmonic balancing rubber (the 22mm are just steel, no rubber), and it most likely wont fix your problem, unless the pulley you have currently is just way out of round from being bent somehow.
Vibration can be from a number of other things that can be fixed for less before replacing the crank pulley:
Dirty IACV, old leaky vaccuum hoses, air in the coolant system, and weak O2 sensor are some big vibration-makers that are relatively cheap to fix.

Thank You. I appreciate the help. I just got the engine a few months ago from Japan Direct, so it could have been dropped.
I did see this part number when I ordered the first incorrect pulley. I ordered the other one that ends in (Y01). When I called them up and asked about this other part, they could not confirm that it was 22MM...You pretty sure?

I'm 99% sure thats the right one. It will be priced lower and shipping weight will be a few pounds less.
I edited my post above with some more info on fixing vibration...I chased vibraton issues for years before fixing it...and it wasnt the crank pulley ^^^ Good Luck!
