timing belt coming off
I jst picked up a 93 1.5 civic, the headgasket, timing belt, and water pump are new. But the timing belt has been cutting into the plastic cover,i removed the cover and the belt is almost half way off the gear.
tryd pushing the belt backon but nothing, pretty sure its the right belt, not sure whats involved with taking it back off, wheres the tensioner? and do i have to unhook the motor mount to get to it
use to working on rotarys any help would be great
thanks guys

the tensioner is down behind the bottom cover part of the timing belt cover. U should be able to get to it without removing the bottom cover. Just look down in there. U will see the clip that is connected to a spring.
You should be able to push the belt back on there a little at a time while working around the perimeter of the cam gear. But you'll want to figure out why it's coming off.

if the belt is coming off, it's probably time for a new tensioner.

the tensioner is located behind the lower t belt cover there should be a access plug in the cover just below the motor mount. pop out the rubber plug the bolt on the tensioner should be 14mm loosen it a little. rotate the engine cw and work the belt back on. Once it back in position rotate the crank until things are at tdc ( remove the spark plugs makes life easier). You don't have to put things at tdc but it never hurts to check things out. If every thing lines up rotate the crank CCW 3 TEETH and only 3 teeth tighten the tensioner bolt back down spin the engine a round a few time and recheck things. If the belt starts to walk off again something is out of whack and needs further inspection.
so could the tensioner jst not be tight, what else could cause the belt to walk half way off the gear
i tried pushing it over and slowly crankn it and pushing over again and again but when i finally start it it starts floating back over
thanks
