Default Painting a new color

I plan on painting my EJ8 soon and was wondering the best way to approach this. The paint on it now is OEM and in really good condition. I just want a different color. Can new paint be sprayed onto original color after sanding etc or will it need to be stripped and re primered???? Forgive my noobieness

If it's the original factory paint, you can just scuff it and spray right over top of it. Wet sand the entire car with 1000 or 1200 grit, or use a scuff pad and sanding paste. I would suggest an adhesion promoter before you start spraying color. I know DuPont makes an adhesion promoter to put down on factory paint for adhesion, it's called 222S. If you had several coats of paint on your car, it would be a good idea to strip it, but in your case just scuff it and re-spray it.
