hrm integra 1995 rs, should I?
came accross a red custom painted acura integra RS with 257,000 kilomiters.
he has inside:
sound system, minus the subs and amp because i have my own....
2 front red racing recaro seats.
black on black interior
typr armrest and shift boot, and a badge o nthe rest but with no numbers lol.
outside is skirted with the full bomex kit and sitting pretty in the back is the original type R wing.
New Feather clutch he said and rotors/brakes were done recently,.
oil changes every 3k, has an intake, and 17 inch rims..
the car runs good, i took it out for a drive, redline every gear, seems to run smooth and quiet. starts right away, it jus has a cel light on though, i dunno which 1 i have obd2 scanner but its obd1 i beleive.
i can pick it up for $4,500 Canadian and have it on the road for a total of $5,000 CANADIAN..
should i pick this up and rebuild the engine?m, or pull the engine sell it and throw a gsr engine + lsd tranny in?
or keep looking. keep in mind i have two total loss integras and 2 tickets in court in 6 months, and my insurance renewal is up next month, so i cant get a type r or gsr cause of that issue, so im thinking this 95 rs and putting the gsr engine/tranny into it,, ill pay a shitload less insurance, and everythings basicaly done except for the engine .

with your description it must be fugly. you can work with the stock motor or you can swap for a gsr. rebuilding and boosting is the best bang for the buck you have now and in the end LSs are much cheaper to replace than GSRs.
not looking for a track car, or a heavily moded engine, cause insurance and tickets are raping me atm, so u guys say i should pull the head, rebuild?
id be replacing the old non vtec head cover with the new one though cause old = fugly..
and what ivtec power said is tru, if i turbo this after rebuild and if it goes, i can pickup an ls engine/tranny for like what, 1500? and still use the existing turbo setup, correct?
what im wondering is, if i pick this car up, will the engine last me until next summer if i do some tuneups/rebuilding within the next few weeks.
keep in mind, the rest of the car is mint and done, so i only have one place to be putting money and its into the engine... its my daily driver and will be used in the winter and i do have set of winter tiresand the stock skirts , so i need a reliable build thats all.
wut u guys think i should do?
and is there a list of things u could tell me to do other then plugs wires cap rotor distributor, timing belt water pump, coolant, thermistat, etc ?
new vales springs, retainers, rods, rings , pistons etc?
also can i get a 98 and up cluster to work in here? so it dont show the high k's?

ivtec power: you said

257k kilometers is ~160k miles. thats not too many miles so instead of the swap id suggest you do a compression/leakdown test to see if its healthy enough for boost.
replacing a LS is cheap and they are plentiful whereas a gsr is much more expensive to replace. if you have the money a gsr is a much better starting platform of course but ivtec power: you said budget-wise LS ftw!
*******
i have the compression tester but no leakdown tester, so i can do compression test b4 i pick it up, what numbers am i looking for on a 95 RS? so i know. (btw these engines r the non vtec ls engines no?
which is tru and most likly the route i wanna take, but i dont want that fugly 257k digits or the greyed out cluster, its jus as simple as switching the films right ?, cause i need everything working lmkafo,

if the motor goes you dont even have to get another tranny. just a motor which can be had for around $500 US dollars.
if you wanna rebuild the head and the bottom end it can be quite pricey and if youre not looking for anything crazy than you can just do stock internals if your motor is in good condition. you want forged internals or an OEM rebuild?

idunno realy, never did a rebuild before, i crashed a 2000 se and a 99 ls within 6 months, i need the 95 to keep the insurance down and hide some engine mods, but the problem is the engine has 257k, 160 miles u said, that seems high to me, i jus dont wanna spend money or not spend money and have the engine die b4 i get ahead enough to do some major spending, i want the cheapest best route with minimum downtime to keep this engine going or the car useable for my everyday needs, the car isnt used for skewl or work or anything, just when i come home to do my **** with the girl or other things. ittl be put away mostly for the winter, so pretty much i just want it to do me till next summer and dont really know which way to go at it or wut to do.

i have a gsr myself but im thinking for an LS should do 170-180 probably. Any LS owners can jump in and verify that.
honestly, if you have another car that can take care of your daily errands than you should take your time with the integra so you can work with it and learn more. if you dont wanna build it yourself than thats fine just take it to a reputable shop BUT dont cheap out on internals.
you said it runs strong so with that much mileage just do the necessary maintenence and other than that it should last you quite a while. just save up for the time being and look into what you wanna do personally. sure best bang for the buck as of now is an LS-T but there are different routes you can take. it all comes down to what you personally want.

yeh you make sense definatly. i know enoough to know what i want and where to go, and can do most the work myself, and have done in the past and i have the helms so it helps.
anyway yeah the ls engine im firmiliar with, my old one had 165ish, i wasnt sure of the high points thats all, so anywhere around 160-180 should be fine im guessing.
i have a stage 3 clutch and flywheel 9.5 lbs here, the auction i got it from ebay said 96-01 integra rs ls gs. prolly wouldnt work in the 95 rs eh? if it will thatd be a bonus for when this fails, but i can still sell it neway.
also have a ls non vtec timing belt/water pump here, not sure of the years it said, but it should fit still eh?.
and its not that the engine in this rs is bad and i know it, its the fact i dont know it, but i drove it, it seems strong, the guy seems retarded about what he has, im just assuming its ba, but it honestly ran fine when i drove it, handled the redlines good, and idled good in high rpm, ..
i jus dont wanna get fucked on spending money into this one and have the engine go, which might never happen for then ext 3 years. i dont know is the problem ;p
