SiR Cluster issue (Very odd)
Hey H-T Team:
Basically, earlier today I attempted to install a JDM EF9 SiR Cluster into my 91 Civic DX. The car has an OBD-1 DOHC VTEC motor in it with a YS1 Cable transmission; currently I am still running the cable VSS until Tomorrow when I pick up an electronic VSS. I installed all the wires and pinned them in correctly.
No sloppy tape work what so ever, after doing such I started the vehicle and noticed ALL the lights were working correctly (Fuel, Temp, TAC, E-brake, dimmer, signals ETC). However when I took it highway to test the tack reading I noticed that my CEL tripped and VTEC wasn’t engaging?
Is this because there is no VSS hooked up? I also used this as a reference: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2015626
Now the only thing that I can think of is on the 8 pin out plug it shows that YEL RED #2 is NOT used and according to my manual it mentions that being an Oil Pressure switch?
Basically asking:
1) Can the cluster effect VTEC engagement?
2) Can it be that the VSS isn’t hooked up?
3) Because it’s an OBD1 ECU?
NOTE I searched with no results with this issue!

YUP!
I tested your answer just now basically I ran the cable VSS into my stock cluster and VTEC then engaged, then the CEL went on, and it stopped (because it isn't a closed loop)
Thank you for your help! I solved the issue
