Default Flywheel

So, I am changing my clutch and flywheel, and something interesting. When I pulled out the trans, the old stock flywheel, had a bluish color and some minor cracks in it. Im guessing this could be from overheating? My theroy is that even though I had a slipping clutch, I would get on the highway and mess around with a few friends, shifting in high rpm's. The clutch would obviously slip, and my guess, overheat the flywheel. Anyone else know of any other causes.
