is 10w30 fine if i'm going to use the car for a temporary while?
i'm doing an oil change i've read that 5w20 or 5w30 is recommended but i'm not going to keep the car for that long anyways. i want to know if using 10w30 is fine.
a heavier oil in the summer time wont harm the motor.... now in winter, thats a differnet story... always go thinner when its colder... easier to start.

and your 5th gen also calls for 10w30 oil
where as the 03s require 5w20

if your owners manual says its safe to run 5w30 then running 10w30 will be ok.
The first number on the oil rating is the initial weight. the second number is the weight at operating temperature. So 5w30 is the same as 10w30 when the oil heats up. the problem is when its cold (which isnt a problem in cali) the 10w30 would be a lil harder to get flowing right away.
So, in short, if youcan run 5w30, you can run 10w30
