2000 TL with P0401 Code need help!
I'm looking at buying a 2000 TL. The only problem it has is the check engine light is on and I had the code checked today at advanced auto parts and it came up with EGR flow insufficient. The guy at advanced said that it was nothing to worry about. He said that it might run a little hot and the gas mileage might go down a little bit. What do you guys think? How much will it cost to get it fixed and what could the problem be? Could it be the EGR valve or is it more then that? Has anyone had this problem and what did it cost to get fixed and do I need to worry about it right away? Thanks for any replys.
I've read several about several cases where the EGR valve becomes fouled. Some people were able to clean it while others had to replace it. You will likely notice a power loss and decreased fuel efficiency until you get it taken care of.
P0401 usually means clogged EGR ports. On the 00-03 TL's, you can clean the ports pretty easily by removing the plate on top of the upper intake plenum. On 99 TL's you have to remove the intake manifold and clean the EGR port from underneath, the 00-03's are easier in comparison. If you have any mechanical ability and a 10mm socket/ratchet, you can probably do it yourself on a 00-03 TL.
Thanks Guys. I called a Honda/Acura tech and told me the same thing. He said that the EGR vave might need to be replaced or cleaned and the ports. He said that I can drive it like this for a while with no problem just lower fuel mileage. Is this true? Thanks for any replys
