Need Help with my JDM Door installation
I got my hands on some JDM doors with power everything. I was wondering if anyone here in the 626 area has any experience with this type of installation. If so was wondering if you can lend me a hand with my installation. If not, could you please send me any tips or info my way so i can tackle this project with the least amount of effort.
Thanks.
Thanks.
i am going to assume that you want to swap your complete US door out for the JDM door. heres a step by step.
in order to get the door off you are going to need to access 4 - 14mm bolts that affix the door to the body of the car via the door hinges.
while you can access these with the fenders on theres a good chance of chipping your fender paint or rounding the bolt head. i reccomend removing or lostening the fenders.
once the fenders are removed or sufficently lostened remove the tapered pin in the door stop, from bottom to top. just tap it out with a small hammer it should pop out pretty easy, carefull not to hit your paint!
next disconnect the wiring that goes to the door.
after all of that is completed, first make sure your doors window is rolled down to give you something to hold on to when the door is removed as it is about 60 pounds.
next close your door. make sure that it is latched so it wont fall off when fully lostened. then remove the four bolts. becareful the only thing holding the door on is the catch, to get the door off simply get ready for the weight and pull the door handle.
to install your jdm door you can either get a floor jack or use some muscle to get the door back up to where it needs to be rebolted back in.
pretty much you can relatch the jdm door and then bolt the door on. keep it loose though as you will need to adjust it so it will close correctly and panel fitment will be correct
when adjusting door fitment i usually tighten the bolts down a pinch, just enough to hold the doors in place. then i use the floor jack at the back of the door to lift the door into the right place and retighten the doors.
hope this was a little bit of a help.

bronze glass, power windows, power door locks, different door panels, sometimes power folding mirrors, different moldings, etc.
ive even heard that they are lighter than usdm doors due to the reinforcement bars.

JDM doors = same physically as 88s. i have an 88 so i can check next time i am taking off the panel to verify (which will be soon....fricking thiefs busted both my door locks). I know there IS a weight difference with just using 88 doors compared to 89-91 USDM...which the years arent totally correct, it may be 88s and some 89s cause the seatbelt changed on some models 89 (thats another discussion entirely
) but also there was a side impact installed on those later years like 90-91. so many fricking differences and all arguable and provable from every standpoint. Why could they just make all of them the same

smart ***.
personally, for the price..... they arent my cup of tea either. but the power windows and door locks would be a plus.

This is the main reason i got them. Now the task is to wire them up so they work :-)

Chit you are right, only power windows not locks :-) damn. Was planning on swapping the handles (sedan) out anyways. Going to make them power when i install my alarm.

Great explanation on how to physically remove the door. The real tricky part is wiring up all those options. I think there are some articles on how to do that in the FAQ section... As for the differences in crx doors.
88 doors all models, didn't have side impact beams and had pillar mounted seat belts.
89 HF model is the same as 88
from 89-91 all models except 89 HF had door mounted belts and side impact beams.
All crx doors outside of the US from 88-91 are the same physically as the 88 US doors including 89 HF doors + all the options such as power windows, mirrors and such..

I put power windows in my 88. Everything bolted up nicely. I have an extra set of door switches and motors if anyone is intersted. Just needs a new passenger side window switch, you may be able to fix the one I have. Everything else is working.
