Default How long you use the Kumho V 710’s ?

Question is how long people normally use these V710’s in a auto-x set up? I have "heard" people using it till its corded off ? I have set sitting in the garage for the last 2 years or so Its almost worn off to the treadwear bar… . Thinking about using it in the next auto-x?? I know that most street tires start loosing grip when its worn off to this level. Is R comps tires like that?

Also it went thru two hot summer seasons….what happens when it just sit for 2 years?

Were they just sitting out in the open air for two years? In the sun, or not? These things will have an effect on how the compound holds up. For just tread, they'll be fine.

They were sitting in a closed garage in open air......by the looks of it I cannot find any cracks or anything.....

Well, you should be able to use it for an autox or three, but don't expect it to have the same level of grip a great-shape 710 would have. Next time, wrap the tires in big garbage bags and seal them off.

You should be able to use them for at LEAST one event. With age, the tires get harder (you already know this) and therefore they lose grip, but they are hard enough that they last a little longer. At least that's the way it's worked for me with the Corvettes and my old hondas.

Anyone else on tire preassure? Also, does it help to water the 710's between the runs? thanks

only way to tell is check their surface temp after each run, those little infrared guns work wonders for gathering such info...I think their operating temp should be around 180-200* F

just use the things. and don't worry too much about the bag and tag stuff either.

they will get a little hard but just find a deserted place to drive in a tight circle (not smoking or anything) to scrub the old crap off before you get on course.

i have used new tires, two year old tires, even 7 year old tires and still get comparable times. you might not win the nationals but you will still enjoy a great time.

I didn't think the 710s were available 7 years ago...

<--- Have definitely seen a difference in grip between bagged and unbagged R-comps.

I was only able to get about 10 or 11 heat cycles out of the 710s that I tested. They were still pretty far from the cords before they started going away, they still have about 3/32nds still on them when retired.

They have about the same amount of life that I got out of my R6's.

the 710's were not around 7 years ago but other R-compound tires were. once you get that layer of oxidation and crap off, old tires can be pretty darn good.

this last weekend i had my fastest times with two year old 710's rather than the new one week old 710's
