All Motor guys with 3" exhaust- how to make it quiet!?? Resonators? Mufflers? HELP lol

Hey guys- my old setup was a turbo poormans type r, and with that I had a 3" exhaust- I swapped it for a b20 (vtec head coming this winter not yet) and didnt change the exhaust. Id like to keep the 3" because eventually ill either do a full all motor build, or turbo it. In the meantime, the car makes me want to cry especially after my 14 hour drive with the b16 tranny. Now my question is- will this make it quiet?--

Ive heard that resonators are the same thing as glasspack mufflers- is this true? If so id like to use these

As for the muffler, I want it kind of stock/boring looking, so i think that this would be absolutely perfect

I want to keep this on the cheap, and will be welding all this in myself. Any comments on this would be awsome. I dont want it to be as quiet as stock, but I do want to hear myself think when I drive. What do you all think? will this be quiet enough as say a normal civic with the cheap ebay 2.5" catback?

or instead of using the summit muffler, i may try a twin loop ebay one-
if some reviews from people tell me its too loud, im gona try oem for a bit

YOu don't want to use any of those pieces to cut sound down. I'd go with (2) real resonators and a muffler with a center/offset arrangement.

Ive done quite a bit of research on other forums, and from what i can tell, glasspacks are pretty much the same thing as resonators- the difference is that a resonator has less materials in it, and that it uses reflection for quieting versus absortion. any input? thanks

Not so. If it was true glasspacks would cost more.

im well aware- its just that with so much information out there that ive read i find it hard to beleive that putting a glasspack inline would not have the same effect as a resonator

i had much the same problem w/ my 3". here's what i did: 2 12" magnaflow resonators; 1 (restrictive) 2.25" in/out dynomax turbo muffler in the stock location. this part is key: another (same) muffler on the pass side, with a 2.25" pipe 'T'd into the exhaust pipe just prior to the other muffler. now it still drones like a **** on the hwy, but i bolt a can over the muffler in the stock location when i'm not at the track, and it's very quiet (restrictive) when all of the exhaust is routed through the secondary muffler. yes, it's ugly, heavy, and restrictive, but it's quiet and relatively cheap, and when i have the can off, 2 2.25" tubes flows slightly more than one 3" tube (provided it has all of the bends and = BS going on)
Slap a stock exhaust on and run a cutout. That's what I plan on doing.

A glass pack will burn out ALOT faster.

this may be blasphemy for you but a good high flow cat will keep things nice and quiet too. i have serious thought about putting one back on my car just to cut out the noise.
