Grinding noise
So I have had this grinding noise that I thought was my main bearing. So what so I do? I put in a new clutch, pressure plate, and bearing. So then I start up the car and I still get a grinding noise form around the transmission. Anybody have any ideas?
i have the same prob...sounds like its comming from the tranny...i took in into the honda dealer i used to work at it and had my friend put it up on the lift..he showed me what was making the noise right away...i have a snapped exhuast bracket that bolts on to my tranny...everytime i shift or rev the car up it makes a loud griding noise.
well i dont know if thats the problem cause i just had it apart and it looked like everything was ok. Plus with the main bearing when i took that out it had pits in the *****. its quiter now but it doesnt sound like dream. But it grinds in 3rd&5th and pops out of 4th. LOL. I know that the sincros are all messed up but i dont know about foruth. It has to be a bearing inside the tranny but what one idk. I worked at a transmission shop for a little but but idk a lot.
there are only two bearings inside the trans. and with your syncros messed up that should tell you something. either time to replace the synchros or get a new trans. and when you said main bearing (not to insult your inteligence) were you refering to the throw-out bearing? cause the main bearing is on the back of the mainshaft for the trans.....

Correction. There are seven. You're probably just referring to the two inside the clutch housing end of the case. It sounds like it's a problem with the input shaft or mainshaft bearing that's causing the noise, but it also sounds like your synchros have taken a crap.

there are TWELVE bearings inside the tranny
You forgot the 5 roller bearings under the gears
ISB is toast, $50 in parts and the fun of ripping a tranny apart, or you can pull the tranny and bring it to me and I can do it for $100 total, your about 120 miles away.
What tranny is it?

I dont know what tranny for sure (i dont know the codes but would like to). Its from a D15B8. How long would it take you to rebuild it When I work in the shop I was the "bitch". I only buit ZF a 5speed once. But I can take them apart all day long.
Ok so I took the transmission out and moved the main shaft. It sounds a like a rock tumbler. I am trying to get apart so I could put up some pics, but it wont come apart. All the bolts around the case are off and so is the 3/8 drive nut. Any help?
Read all of the thred. I have it out of my car. Yes it made a little noise when the clutch was in. But like I said the transmission is out and I moved the main shaft around and it sounds like a rock tumbler.

Look inside where you removed the 3/8 drive nut, there's a snap ring that needs to be expanded while you lift the top half of the case off.

Keep trying, it usually will take eleven thousand tries the first time you do it. Have a friend help if you're still having trouble.

Ok well I got a new transmission from somebody. Anyways they left somethings on it. I can get the spring pin out. They left it on the extension rod. The book says to use driver 07749-0010000 but i dont want to spend the 25 bucks for that. I spent 40 buck on a set of punches and they were all to small. What size do I need? PLEASE HELP!!!!
