Buying used boosted blocks...
Hey guys, I've got a pretty good offer for a slightly used b16 shortblock that's been built for boost. It's got around 1500 miles. He said that his when he did the compression test it read as followed: one through 4: 225, 223,223,226. He also did a leakdown test and here was his results: the worst cylinder was .75%, all others were either .25 or .5%. My question is, is this where it should be at for block with such low mileage, and if it is, is it worth getting?
i'm always afraid to buy used blocks that i have not driven on. You have to be able to litsen for odd ball noises (knocking). also be wondering why he is selling with such low mileage and how can you confirm the mileage? for all you know the block could have 20k miles on there! hahaha
you got a point there my fellow hmong brother! the guy's got vouches and they all confirmed it. from the tests it looks like it's a real healthy motor. it's all a risk bro! more input please! thanks!

we need to know a price to tell u if its a good deal or not. i mean if it is $100 then its a great deal if its $4000 then its a **** deal. we also need to know what "built" means. is the block sleeved? what brand pistons and rods?

There was another thread not too long ago regarding used parts where someone brought up a good point. Doesnt it seem like the majority of for sale parts have anywhere from 1000-1500 miles on them?

thanks for the replies guys, i know it has seen track time and all but it was built by hotrodteg who is very good at what he does, everyone who's had a motor built by him has been very satisfied, and there's a few of them on here also. i believe williewilliefast, and 10secivivc aer 2 of the members on here with blocks built by him and 10secivic won the nhra sfwd a few years ago.

I want to know what type of leak down gauge shows accuracy to .25%? lol My Snap On gauge sure as hell doesn't even come close!
In my opinion, he made up both the compression and leakdown numbers. Those types of gauges don't read with that kind of accuracy. I'd stay away from that motor...
