15" or 16" Rims for STS
Looking for some direction on what size rims to get for STS. Either 16" or 15"??
Also wondering if anyone has bought a set of the Flick Bang rims from edge racing and what they really weighed in at / how they compared to the Falken Hanabi's?
Has everyone had acceptable experience with Edgeracing or have people had problems with them?
Thanks,
Dan

it depends on the car
for heavier cars like integras/preludes you probably want to go with a 16 inch wheels to give yourself more contact patch
for most civics you should stick with 15 inch wheels
best value autox tire: falken azenis rt-615 ftw
im trying out my 215/45-16 azenis' mounted on slips for the first time at an autox tomorrow

Dan-
If you don't want to spend the money for some lighter 15x7.5's, I would at least look for some 15x7.5 Slipstreams, the extra width is helpful.
If you are going to stick with the 15" size, then I really feel the Bridgestones are faster. The 205/50-15 RT-615's have mushy feeling sidewalls (even on 7.5" wide wheels). When we stretched the 205/40-16 RT-615's over 16x7.5 wheels it took a lot of that mushy feel away because there wasn't much room for the sidewall to move.
The price of the 195/50-15's Bridgestones aren't that bad either, unlike the 215/45-16's

i probably wouldve gone with the bridgestones except they dont have my size
they also arent legal (until next year) in autox (since the manufacturer missed the deadline set in the SCCA rules)- since im starting place in some regions i dont want to get called out on it and get DQed

They are legal. The deadline is for a new model of tire, not a new size of a particular model of tire (which has been out for a year or two).

my Falken Hanabi's weighed in at exactly 11lbs as advertised.
seem to be holding up fine after 1 year of autox and daily driving.
once you get to 16's the weight goes up a decent amount unless you want to spend some $$$. gonna be some bucks to find an 11lb 16" wheel. even the Enkei RPF1 16x7 are 14 lbs.
You can get the RE-01Rs in 205/45/16 , since they only have 195's in 15 " size and are a bit narrower then 205/50/15 azenis. the re-01r 16's are about the same width as the Azenis
don't forget, the smaller OD RE-01R are 180 treadwear, where the larger diameters bump up to 140 treadwear. kinda weird in my book.
i think stepping up to the 205/55/16 or 225/50/16 are going to kill your gearing though (24.9" od)

Yep, they have been run at multiple national events this year. Like Matt said, the tire has been out for a while, just not this particular size.

I've never understood why the smallest diameter 225 width is usually a 225/50-16, especially these days of larger wheels and lower profile tires. Damnit, make the re-01r in a 225/35-16 already! Or, if nothing else, the rt-615 in that size. My Integra needs all the rubber it can get to try and keep up with those anorexic Civics.

Konig Helium can be had in 16x7 for under 100 bucks a wheel and around 13 pounds. I got mine from JLB motorsports.

Both of the RE-01R's aren't as wide as the 205/50-15 RT-215, but they are only slightly wider still. I don't have any 205/50-15 RT-615's to compare them too.
So don't let the 195 width scare you away, they are wide... not to mention the gearing is better as they are shorter.
