You will rub hard if you are lowered any amount. May even rub at stock height.

The correct tire size for 17s is 215/40

(Don't do it.)

you try it then tell me .. 215/50 will rub if your lower even mild. plus it will look like you got some off road tires

My car is lowered about 2 inches all around and sitting on 17x7 with a set of 215/45 nitto tires and doesnt rub at all

Comments like this are misleading because offset is a major factor in whether you will rub.

I am dropped 2" as well and when I tried 215/45, it rubbed with my 42 offset rims. If I had 45 or higher or so, I wouldn't have rubbed.

I run 17x8.5, +40 offset (with 235/40/17s) in the front of my car...on full coilovers. I rolled the inside lip before i put them on, but am not even sure if that was required for clearance.

I also run 26x8.5x15 slicks on stock 15" wheels in the same wheel well. Those would be equivalent to 255/55/15's.

But youre not worried about losing acceleration from it!
Glad to see youre still around!

Big meat'd 17's for killing your acceleration!

+32 offset with 17x8 and 215x40x17 fits without any fender tucking.
Oh and lowered on h&r sports w/ koni yellows mid-perch.

I have run 17x8 Mugen MF10's with 235/45/17 RA-1's and I didn't rub. OFFSET is a major factor, so people shouldn't just jump in and say that the setup won't work. Here are pics...

I am currently on 17x7" +51 wheels with a 215/45 and I don't rub in any way shape or form. I have also run 17x7's with a +37mm offset and I could slam the living **** out of my car and still make you turns just fine.

It wouldnt matter if I had intermediates on...traction is still difficult. I only race at the track anyways . And yes...still around, just won't be running my car until 2011 when i get back to my home town. Running low 12's in the summer of 2000 was a long time ago.

I will probably try and sneak some 245's on the front next time i buy tires. They will fit.

I know a program way better than that one...

Try this one out. It does offset, clearance, everything

From the dead!

Anyone know of light and affordable (ha!) wheels that are 17x8.5 or hopefully 17x9? I'm looking to go to a 255/40R17 Toyo RA1.

4x114.3 please

Right now I'm using Rota Torques 17x8 +35 with 235/40R17. I'm pretty low and there's no rubbing anywhere.

There's a Rota D2 that's a little heavy in 17x8.5 4x114.3 but I haven't found any other options that I wouldn't mind throwing a pair away every year when I bend or break them.

I don't think XES's Volk CE-28N's fit into the "throw away a pair once a year" category

Lemme know if you guys know of anything.

-Chris

good tip on the fn01r-c... looks like the 17x9 4x114.3 only comes in a +20, would probably need +35 or +45. I still have to check clearance on the inside but I think I have a little more there.
