97 EK swap question
I'm buying a 97 honda civic 2 door and the engine in it is blown, i have two engines at my disposal 1 - 93 EX 2 - 93 Integra B18 (non-vtec) which one is easier to swap into the Ek? I searched through the posted faqs but couldn't seem to find this kind of swap, its not to swap for racing it's just to have a winter car and i dont want to spend money buying another ek block.
The 93 ex is easiest if you already have an Ex. Some sensors/plugs may be missing due to your car being obd2 and the engine being obd1
The b18 is a better choice if you're looking to "upgrade" but you will need addtional mounts etc, plus the obd2 and obd1 issue as stated above.
I say go with the b18.

93 ex motor definately.
With a b-series motor, you have to buy a ****-load more parts than if you bought 93 ex motor (d16z6 i think). You'll need to switch from obd2 to obd2.
for your b18b swap if you decide to do that: http://technet.ff-squad.com/hybrid.92-95.obd2.htm

Keep the LS and build it, use the EX motor for a beater, although since it is OBD1, some modifications will need to be done in order for it to run correctly.
Personaly im a fan of LS-Turbo, when done right they can be a force of nature. Then again, theres nothing wrong with a good LS/VTEC build either. Im not critical of either, they both have their uses

Neither of you guys are listening to his needs, as he said, "its not to swap for racing it's just to have a winter car and i dont want to spend money buying another ek block. "
Ok so the 93 Ex Engine i have would be the easiest to do but can i put the intake manifold from the 97 block on mine to make it easier cause if not i think i have to change the throttle cable since they don't go to the same place. Does anybody know where i can find a good FAQ on putting an OBD1 Engine into an OBD2 civic. Thanks again for the info guys
If this helps the integra 93 car i am currently driving so axles mounts and all that stuff i would be able to take off of it and also i have the Ex too which i'm building into my race car which i will put a gsr engine in so if this makes it easier for some good answers.

The EX is easier to install as you don't have to change the mounts or the linkage.
Though if you have an LS swap (B18b1) ready, DROP THAT THING IN.
LS = Ownage motor IMO - people just don't see it.

You don't have to change the throttle cable if you use the Y8 (stock '97 EX) manifold on your '93 EX. The stock one will work fine.
There's really no special trick to it, you'll just need the '97 driverside mount since the driverside mounts on D series motors changed from '95 to '96 (generation change). Other than that everything COMPLETELY bolts right in except for:
A) Alternator (plug won't fit into main harness)
B) Injectors (plug won't fit into main harness)
C) Distributor (plug won't fit into main harness)
Though you can pull all those off the OBD-I engine and they'll plug right up to the new '97 engine and you everything will be peachy.

My take is that the OP wants to get his 97 EK running with the parts he already has with the least amount of trouble and not do any performance upgrades.
Seriously, I would sell the 93 EX motor (D16Z6 probably) and use the proceeds to buy a 96-98 D16Y7 and just drop the sucker in. You probably end up with spare $$$.

yeah thought about that but nobody wants to buy a 93 ex motor with kilometers on it. so i'm going to go with the eg into the ek and buy the conversion harness for 50% and switch the remaining items like the alternator, dizzy and injectors. Thanks for all the help guys.
