Default removing paint off wheels?

i got some ls mesh wheels and the guy i got them from painted them silver. because of the people before him painted them purple. and both the silver and purple paint is chipping off. and you can see that they did not sand down the wheels when they painted them purple. so i was wondering how i could get the paint off without having the factory clear coat come off the wheels? i was thinking about using that airplane paint remover but not sure if it will take the clear coat off. any help is great.

Stickied at the top of this forum - so you would have to be absolutely clueless to miss it - is the topic:

FAQ: How to paint your wheels.

Did you even think to look there???

the clear coat underneath all the coats of paint was probably already peeling. that's probably why the previous owners painting them. ever think of that?
even if you did use the aircraft paint remover then it will just eat right through the original oem clear anyway.

trust me. i have tried all this before. just read up in the polishing thread or just get different wheels....but whatever you do, just have fun and GL
