quick question
i am currently driving an 99 civic ej8, and i was actually planning to go for the h22a swap. and boost it. and i was wondering. is their really a big difference between, and obd1 and an obd2? motor swap.
the motor i want is 92 - 95 h22a. i was just wondering if i will have any problems with it. thank you.

if you pick up the wire conversion kit for the ecu, you shouldn't have any problems. here's a link:

as for the difference. yes there is a difference. obd1 ecu's are alot easier to work with and tune.
IMO, obd2 are crap. they have alot more sensors, which means alot more money in repair and alot more headaches when trouble shooting.

i also wanted to add on. is the H22a swap worth doing in my car. because i can get everything but the motor mounts. for about 1600 tranny and a complete motor. but i was just wondering if it was going to make a difference. from what i have right now which is a d16y8. thanks.
You will have to splice on your OBD2 plugs for stuff. I think the oil pump, and distributor. And you will need to get a coversion harness and an OBD1 ECU to get it to run properly. This is all I can think of though. The splicing might not be a big deal though since you are going to have to extend a lot of your wires anyway.

a d16y8 is a very good d-series motor...but it is still only a 1.6L single-cam.
the h22a is a 2.2L dual-cam. It has alot more power and alot more potential than a d-series.

This is somewhat accurate. It would be easier to boost the D, because they are cheap and easy to fix for the most part, and for the fact that you could play around with it and learn. With the right time and parts, you can get about 200hp from a turbo D16. For around the same price, you can get an H22, and have around that power, but remember its a full swap, so it really depends on what kind of time you have.
